Anyone know anything about Xboxes?!

We got ds one for his birthday. Previously he had a switch and to buy anything (downloading games) I would put my card details in and there was an option to save or not save the card for future purchases. I always chose not to save the card to avoid any accidental crazy purchases.
He’s just asked me for the membership where he can play with his friends online, I’ve put my card details in but there’s no option to delete them now the membership is paid for! Is there a way I can disable them?

You need to login to the microsoft account associated with his xbox profile, navigate to payment methods and add / remove there.

Worth doing, because it almost certainly will be setup to auto-renew every time it expires.

Struggling to remember whether you can do it from settings on the xbox itself.

I did say to him that I think I’d need to do it that way; thank you, I’ll get it done ASAP.
I don’t mind it renewing as he plays online with his friends and I think you have to have the membership to do that, but I just don’t want him to be able to pay for add ons (I don’t know what they might be but we got stung once with his switch before we learnt what to do so keen to avoid it this time round! And he’s still young enough that we are most definitely responsible for doing this, we were very naive about this stuff before!).
Ive told him he’ll have to give me £7 a month for it!!

Just for the future you can get month memberships off eBay for a fraction of the price. Sent to you almost instantly, You just redeem the code via the Xbox store no auto renewal and saves a lot of money over the course of a year.

Oh thanks @OnAir - how does that work?!

Cdkeys.com you can buy discounted codes for things like the membership then enter them in the store under redeem code. You save money and don't have to put in card details. Also when you want to buy games it is often far cheaper.

I purchase these and they send the code via eBay log into my Xbox and enter the code via redeem code on the Xbox store. You cannot have any active membership when redeeming the code as it won't work so soon as one runs out I buy another.

I also second cdkeys for games, cheaper and no scratched disks depending on what Xbox you have and what games you want to download it would be worth investing in a external hard drive at somepoint My 1tb Xbox gets full quite quickly call of duty and the likes are large game files.

Thanks everyone, lots to look into. Have managed to disable in game purchasing for now which was the first step.
We are not techy people! I feel like my grandad, when we were kids we teased him endlessly because he couldn’t work out how to use the video recorder 😂

Have you tried following a YouTube video or I'm sure you will be able to Google how to do it.

whenever I have to put my card details into things like this I just use a pre paid debit card e.g my son’s Go Henry card, which only ever has about £20 quid on and no overdraft facility, so no way of lots of additional money can being take from in app purchases etc
