How to give up alcohol

I’ve NC for this as I am really embarrassed. My drinking has been getting progressively worse, I wouldn’t say I’m an alcoholic, I can go weeks/months without drinking. But the problem is I’m greedy. I don’t have a stop button. If I have two litres of water in front of me, I’ll drink it all quickly, the same applies with food and booze.

I have been getting myself in trouble at work recently because of drinking and texting colleagues when I shouldn’t and other things. I can’t lose my job. I really enjoy it, it’s my dream job.

so my question is, is there any books that anyone can recommend to get sober please ?

The unexpected joy of being sober.

I read a little each day and I could see how easily I could slip that far as I was also an ‘all or nothing’ drinker. Once I made peace with the fact that I couldn’t moderate, I had to quit, it became easier.
Happily 3 years alcohol free.

In the nicest possible way, books aren't going to get you sober if your job and realtionships are being affected by your drinking. Only you can do that by changing your behaviour. There's an alcohol board on MN, with lots of help and advice. Why don't you start with reading threads on there and see what other people have tried?

Thank you for the recommendations and I’ll definitely take a look at the board.

Another vote for Unexpected Joy Of and I disagree that a book won't stop you drinking because I stopped as soon as I read it. It was so eye opening and really made me realise that alcohol was not enhancing my life. I was similar to you in that I could go weeks with no drink but as soon as I had one glass of wine I then I just carried on to have a full bottle. Life is so much simpler and happier now. Good luck!
