Electric burner in newish house...

Hiya, I'm hankering after a fire - I've always loved one but the house we are (long term) renting doesn't have one. I feel I need a centrepiece that isn't the tv! 😂 I've got my eye on an electric log burner type thing, but I've never done it before. Can I buy one then buy a mantelpiece and the slates for underneath and it not look daft on a flat wall!?! All advice welcome!

Why not? A chimney breast would be nice but if you haven't got one go for it. I like a room with some sort of fire.

yes I'm really missing one! The electric burner things seem to be far far better than they used to be.

Absolutely! We have one and it is great.

We put in a stone hearth and mantle which you couldn't do in rented but a wooden one would work.

I was thinking something like this, maybe with an oak beam above and a hearth. We can luckily drill into walls etc providing we make good when we go which won't be for years yet.
