What's the drama on your local NextDoor site?

A 17-year old woman has just joined my local site and started a hashtag in support of her 16-year old friend who's been suspended for violating the rules on respect. There is much talk of his suspension being an issue of human rights infringements and threats to free speech.

The 16-year old who's been suspended is a prolific poster and, unsurprisingly, isn't after recommendations for plumbers or support with a lost cat. He posts utter nonsense and creates completely random feuds with people - he seems to have particular beef with a chap called Geoff for no reason I can discern at all.

As an example of why he's been suspended: In a thread about noisy neighbours, he posted that he'd only have sympathy for the OP if her baby had died.

So there's that.

What's happening on your local ND site right about now?

We currently have a gofund me page for a local cat in the town that used visit the police station, library etc that got run over and killed by a mobility scooter.

The go fund me was last at 2.5k when I saw it.
There was lots of talk of waste of money BUT even more talk of a large memorial statue for said cat in the middle of the town.

It's actually quite a deprived area, I'm boggled by it

The smell of sewage in a particular area, owners of vicious and out-of-control dogs, and ULEZ.

All the fun ...

A man with a body building physique asking for foreign language lessons from young, slim females, in exchange for a body massage! 🙄

A woman wanting a man and van service. Collect things from address A, then travel 30mins to another location to collect more stuff, then a further hour away to delivery it all. For free of course!

Missing cats or random cats in their gardens

Some bought something from market place, but doesn't drive and can't collect it- can someone on nextdoor collect it for her- again, for free!

Please tell me nobody gave in to the CF wanting free removals?!

Well, the other day it was outrage over a potential UFO sighting which turned out to be Elon Musk's satellite. This was after much hysteria about aliens and conspiracies about area 51.

Then, the next day someone started a debate about the benefits of euthanasia and assisted suicide

Then hearing ghosts on halloween night

Then someone posted that they heard a man shout once at 10pm and were freaking out and should they call the police

Now its pictures of someone's drain

So, all in all a bit of a mixed bag.

I have all the multitude of emails it sends every single day going to a junk folder. I have no idea how to stop them. I've followed the instruction on unsubscribing but still they come. So, in short, I have no idea what is happening on my nextdoor site and just wish I had never signed I to it in tge first place.

Me too - I have even complained to the data controlelrs and still get dozens of emails having unsubscribed. I hated the site - full of utter rubbish, and unsubscribed after about 2 weeks, but ended up having to block them because otherwise they just kept coming, even after complaints and them agreeing to stop.

I live in a fairly affluent suburb. A local hotel has been filled with male asylum seekers aged 18-45.
I am embarrassed and ashamed by some people that I thought were actually ok humans.
A lot of the men look very young and it must be quite scary to be so far from home with no family around. They must be bored stiff as they are not allowed to take on jobs.
However, quite a few have started doing free things for the community.
I just hope they feel welcomed by those of us who are not calling them all sorts just for walking past parks.

Oh, I've just remembered, a few weeks ago someone posted ring camera footage of a man taking a dog for a walk and doing a poo on the pavement (the man, not the dog!)

😮
