Are John Lewis trying to tell us that they’re a little shop of horrors??

It’s very clever. What six year old child is not going to want a Venus fly trap now? And coincidentally, they have one they can sell you for £10, along with all of the other bits they’ve designed to go with it.

It’s memorable, it’s certainly got people talking, there’s no wispy 20 year old singers ruining good songs, it’s definitely better than the man in the moon. I think it’s doing its job.

I quite liked it, it entertained me. And I'm also glad it's not more sentimental mush with a plinky-plonky soundtrack!

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 09/11/2023 14:36

I asked DH if the message was that we can put the badly behaving family members out in the cold this Christmas. I think the intended message was lost on me.

I still cried 🤣

A lot better than recent ones!
I bet theyll be criticicised for an all white cast.

Gingernaut · 09/11/2023 15:33

Like M&S, they're telling us not to be hidebound by tradition.

We make our own traditions, never minding how odd, or non-conformist they are.

I still want to know what Snapper has been eating to get that big🤔

I mean, if he's not allowed to eat the dog, where's he getting his protein from?

dylanschicken · 09/11/2023 15:42

It's awful Sad

mumda · 09/11/2023 16:12

So you should welcome something in to your home that is not what it says on the box, even if you're worried that thing could damage your entire way of life.
And even if you try to get rid of it, then children are still gullible enough to still want to be the centre of attention.

So that's why Waitrose was full of cuddly Venus fly traps today (and real ones). I did wonder.

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2023 19:29

It's certainly different, but I didn't like it much
Reminded me of triffids.
Wasn't keen on the music either
Going by the John Lewis thread on aibu , they should be more concerned about their customer service going down the shooter than bothering about Venus fly trap plants.

MargaretThursday · 09/11/2023 19:36

The triffids are coming to get you...

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2023 19:41

I bet the JL marketing people are smirking that the other supermarkets are showing cute kids, sampling tunes we know or have Michael Buble warbling away for Asda and that have gone with triffids ( sorry , fly trap plants) as something completely different!
The other ads will be off the wall next year to compete whilst JL will go back to slowed down tunes and cute animals.

KnittedCardi · 09/11/2023 19:45

I loved it, made me laugh. Thank God they have moved away from all the cheesy sentimentality. Liked the M&S one too.

Nope - being criticised for a female cast! Lots of bleating about no men/dad in it!

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2023 19:58

I didn't even realize that the adults in it were all women. Maybe the triffid ( sorry , Venus fly trap) was meant to represent the grumpy men at Christmas who just sit and moan and don't help out that much ?

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 09/11/2023 20:48

tearjerker none the less :(
