I don't see my starter word as a word, if you see what I mean.

It's 5 letters best placed to help me with the rest of it.

I don't know if it'd been a starting word but wouldn't change it.

Using the same starter word: am wondering if my fidgety approach is the best one to use. Hmm. But when I do get it in two, it absolutely makes my day. One day I chose MARCH and it was CHARM. Marvellous.

Ooh, thank you for replies.... Very interesting to hear different strategies. I honestly do not have one but often think of a word I want to use and then try it later, occasionally it will have a lot of vowels, but not always.
Can I check where the puzzle is sourced, as it seems everyone is doing the same one of course.
Is it the NYT , or is there another one that is the one to follow?

I use the same starter word every time and if none of the letters work I have two follow-up words. Between the three of them they cover all the vowels and Y, and the 9 most commonly-used consonants. If any of the letters in my first word work I use letters from the next word if possible to fill in the gaps, but sometimes a word seems to suggest itself, as happened today!

I have had a 1/6, yes I agree it was sheer luck rather than skill, so I appreciate my 2/6s more!
I still use the same starter word now, because apparently it's statistically the most likely to give useful letters.
