What on earth is wrong with my stomach? :-(

I have flare ups of pain (in the centre of my upper abdomen) which did begin after a period of ibuprofen use 2+ years ago but I've completely quit taking it, had a few rounds of omazeprole since and I still get the pain. It's happening more often as time goes on and tends to be worse in the lead up to my period.

I'm constantly constipated (my stools are always a 1 on the bristol stool chart) and I can't remember the last time they were normal. I have taken a home H.pylori test which was negative. The constipation may be related to a med I take though, Nortryptiline.

I took one dose of DulcoEase and Cenlax for the first time last Thursday to help me go to the toilet and whilst it did help me go eventually, it didn't begin to work for three days and I've had continuous, excessive gas/wind/flatulence, epigastric pain and acid reflux ever since I took it. Surely that's not normal for one dose of mild laxative?

The last time I had a 'flare' of symptoms this bad was last year which came out of nowhere. 111 sent me to A&E suspecting gallstones but the hospital assumed it was gastritis (no tests done other than a blood test) after I mentioned historical ibuprofen use. I don't think it's 'just' gastritis though and I'm worried they might be missing something else by focusing so much on the ibuprofen I took ages ago and no longer do.

I went to the doctors today hoping they'd agree to refer me for an endoscopy as its been going on for so long but instead they want me to provide a stool sample to test again for H.pylori, and another one to look for blood in my stools. GP has provided more omazeprole, glycerine suppositories and movicol which I'm scared to take after the effect the last lot is still having on my stomach..

I know you can't diagnose me over the Internet but does any of this sound familiar to anybody? IBS? Intolerance?

I have similar and I have Gallstones. Waiting to have it removed.

It won't show up on an endoscope which I have had and showed something else. You need an ultrasound.

It took years for me to get diagnosed and I had the misfortune of dealing with GPs who are absolute wankers.

Did yours talk you through the dangers of long term omeprozol?

Thank you for replying. I was convinced it was gallstones when I had the horrendous flare up last year as the pain was on par with labour. I was so disappointed that they didn't do any proper investigations. I curse the day I mentioned the fact I used to take ibuprofen as it feels like that's the easiest answer and therefore the one they're going with.

Sorry you've had an equally as frustrating journey to diagnosis, it's crap isn't it?

I haven't been spoken to about the dangers of long term omazeprole use no, but I have read a few things about iron and vitamin malabsorbtion issues which is a concern. I don't particularly want to be taking it as it clearly does nothing for me.

I have low iron as it is.
