Dehumidifier to help drying clothes

VelvetVoice · 08/11/2023 19:09

Does it really work?

I don't have a humidity problem and just want my clothes dry quicker (no tumble dryer)

I'm looking at this one.

Wondering if there are cheaper / better options out there.

@Catmummyof2 silly question but do I need to put the dehumidifier near the clothes, for example in between two clothes airers?

OldLabMummy · 08/11/2023 19:32

No it doesn’t need to be near the clothes. Same room is fine.

OldLabMummy · 08/11/2023 19:34

I also have a Meaco. A different model to the one above though.

HappierTimesAhead · 08/11/2023 19:40

Honestly, it really works! I was suprised at how effective it is. We usually have damp clothes hanging around for days in winter but not now! We have a Meaco.

@HappierTimesAhead hi, sorry, stupid question - does it work to get rid of that damp smell you get in old houses in winter, or just for drying clothes?

theemmadilemma · 08/11/2023 19:48

Yes it really works. Best in an enclosed room.

peplepue · 08/11/2023 19:48

We have a Meaco with laundry setting, we have it in a small utility room with a hanging drying frame. It's brill, better than the eco heat pump tumble dryer which takes up loads of room.

lionsleepstonight · 08/11/2023 19:49

I will never go back. Closed room. I stick mine on to run for 8 hours and clothes are all dry.

Sexnotgender · 08/11/2023 19:50

Totally works, wouldn’t be without my dehumidifier(s)

mynamechangemyrules · 08/11/2023 19:52

Jumping on- what size Meaco do I need for a double bedroom which hosts our heated airer pls? Am waiting (and WAITING!) on John Lewis having it back in stock as I have vouchers to use!

I'd say the 25L one would do the trick, maybe even the 12L.

Zelda93 · 08/11/2023 20:03

I bought one last year and it's an absolute lifesaver..clothes dry quicker and don't get a damp smell on the big jumpers that would take days to dry!! Oh and it's stopped the mould round the windows ..

Flyhigher · 08/11/2023 20:08

They really work! Go for it.

Yes, it essentially sucks all the damp and moisture out of clothes, walls, windows, curtains which in turn reduces the effects of dampness. It also keeps the house warmer. It really is a miracle product😂

Torganer · 08/11/2023 20:11

Get the Meaco 25l. It’s amazing. Our house isn’t damp, yet it collected nearly a litre of water every hour the first time we put it on - and no washing was up. It’s essential now for us when hanging washing. We put ours on the top floor, we don’t close any doors and the washing is dry so quickly. I’d get the 25l as you have to empty it less often. Costs pennies to run.

Summer15coming · 08/11/2023 20:15

Can I ask how you decide where to site it? If you're using it for reducing damp in a house, would you need one in each room, or would one on the landing or the hall cover more than one room?

SorrowsPrayers · 08/11/2023 20:15

I have used one for years. They are brilliant.. so much better than a heated clothes airier.

bellac11 · 08/11/2023 20:16

We have a utility room (side return with roof), which is 16 x 5, polycarbonate roof, upvc doors front and back, all properly enclosed, its where we hang the washing and we use one in there, so not small, but not big, but v cold and not insulated or anything and dries them nicely

Fudgeandcaramel · 08/11/2023 20:18

Game changer. With heated airer, even more effective.

We have ours on the landing and seems to work well there at reducing condensation on windows through the whole house (4 bed).

We got the one above. Game changer. Pop it on at night with the washing and dry by morning. It's so much easier for us.

We have the washing and the dehumidifier in the spare room just now.

AngeloMysterioso · 08/11/2023 20:24

I have a Meaco Low Energy dehumidifier which I use with a Lakeland heated airer. I can get a full load dry overnight
