I've just watched it (day off work and it's raining out, don't judge me) and would be interested to hear other people's opinions.

I never liked TT or Robbie but I do love a good celeb doc so will watch it later.

VisionsOfSplendour · 08/11/2023 15:29

Why would anyone judge you, are we not allowed to watch it?

Maybe I should have typed 'lighthearted' after my comment? I'm not expecting anyone to seriously judge me for watching Netflix on a cold wet Autumn afternoon, instead of doing something worthy Grin

I'm just interested to see what other people thought of RW after seeing the documentary.

Is it worth watching OP? I liked the Beckham one

seeyounexttuesluv · 08/11/2023 15:38

DH can't stand the fella, so I shall watch it and tell him all about it at length 🤗

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 15:43

@NutellaEllaElla it is worth watching, even if you're not a fan of his music. I was surprised by how personally he took criticism in the press, and how badly negative comments affected him, I always thought he was carefree and happy-go-lucky. That was the image I had of him, anyway.

SweetBirdsong · 08/11/2023 15:45

Oooh wot a coincidence, I can hear Robbie playing on Classic Corrie right now! Grin I love him @MaliciaKeys Thanks for the heads-up. I will watch it soon!

lardass88 · 08/11/2023 16:08

I was a massive fan through the 90's of take that and Robbie, literally obsessed, walls and ceilings covered in posters.
Followed him and his demons for ever, and I never thought he'd make it to a 50 year old so I'm really happy he's finally settled. It seems Ada and his kids have saved him.
I'm on episode 2 and I remember all of this- just feel for him and grateful he's still here

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 16:13

Yes, @lardass88 there's a worrying bit where he just doesn't care about anything any more and talks about passing away probably being the best way out. That was heartbreaking. He's been mega famous since the age of 16, and I wonder if, emotionally, he felt pain and hurt out of all proportion, like we all do as teenagers?

I watched ep1 this afternoon. He was thrown in the deep end aged 16 and I really wasn’t surprised he went off the rails. There wasn’t much mention of his parents/family? I don’t know much about him so I don’t know if there’s a story there. It was interesting though. So many young stars struggle with the fame, it feels so toxic.
Why did he have to film all this in his pants tho?!

DustSalad · 08/11/2023 17:43

I was surprised how little they mentioned the Take That years. It just dived straight into his solo career.

I thought he came across as a massive twat. Entitled, arrogant, spoiled, immature. He would probably always have been a prick no matter whether he was famous or not.

DustSalad · 08/11/2023 17:48

As a recovering alcoholic myself, I'm sympathetic to his struggles but he's so utterly, utterly self-absorbed. Fame is perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to him.

Interesting too that they don't cover the 1000s of women he shagged and dumped all up and down the UK. I think we all know someone who has shagged him.

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 17:52

@Cryingbutstilltrying he remains in a state of undress throughout all 3 episodes. He's loaded, he must have more than one pair of pants Grin I got a bit tired of seeing his dodgy tattoos and armpit hair after a bit. His mum was apparently a showbiz mum who pushed him into auditioning for Take That and his dad was mostly absent (divorced), working as a pub singer as far as I know.

And the men

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 17:57

His close friendship with Jonathon Wilkes was covered, and there were rumours at the time they were in a relationship. Having seen the documentary, I don't think they were, he was just part of Robbie's entourage, there to make sure he fulfilled his contract.

My day off today too and I watched it!

I was torn between feeling sorry for him and also thinking what a narcissist he is. I also didn’t understand why he spent the 3 episodes sitting on a bed in his underwear and floating at the bottom of his pool.

MrsMurphyIWish · 08/11/2023 18:04

I also didn’t like how he talked to his daughter, saying “you can’t be in here now as I’m speaking about the most traumatic events of my life” and her asking him who he hated most in TT.

Fawbs89 · 08/11/2023 18:06

I'm going to watch it soon love Robbie. Saw him live some years ago at Manchester City stadium and loved it. Sung my heart out to Angels!

DustSalad · 08/11/2023 18:08

What a romantic story (sarcasm) the way he meets Ayda, goes to the bathroom to take cocaine and is ill all night, during which time they realise they are soulmates. (vomit)

If she had any respect for herself, she would have ditched him at the cocaine part and told him to call her when he has sorted himself out but he dumps HER to go to rehab.

Too many women out there like this, who see themselves in the saviour role.

I'm actually getting pretty fed up of the "woe is me" books/documentaries out there at the mo by famous people.

Hearmenow23 · 08/11/2023 18:13

There wasn’t much mention of his parents/family?

I thought that too. I was really looking forward to it but found it really boring. The Beckham documentary was much more engaging. Might have been more interesting if he'd got out of his pit and put some trousers on. Too much staring at a laptop.

That bit seemed really scripted to me. I wonder if Robbie and Ayda are pushing her towards a showbiz career as she was the only child whose face was shown, and she was filmed both singing and playing the piano. I hope they're not.

OP posts:
MrsMurphyIWish · 08/11/2023 18:22

I thought that too @MaliciaKeys . She actually had more air time than his wife!

NutellaEllaElla · 08/11/2023 19:00

I'm watching it now and just fast forwarded past the bit with his daughter asking who he hated the most. Super cringe. I think celebs shoe horning their kids in these docs, interviews, screen time etc is unwanted by the audience frankly. It doesn't come across well.

Jellycats4life · 08/11/2023 19:07

I was a huge TT fan who was never the biggest fan of Robbie. I thought he was unbearable when he went solo.

Having said all that, I’ve kind of warmed to him a bit in recent years. He’s clearly a vulnerable soul who has struggled with a lot.

Interested to know whether my feelings about him are going to go up or down. I think it could go either way at the moment!

Oh to be a fly on the wall when the rest of TT watch it.

Hearmenow23 · 08/11/2023 19:18

Why is there no love lost with Guy Chambers? Why haven't they left it all in the past?
