JASP Software

I’m about to start my first MSc report and we’ve been told to use JASP. I don’t know if it’s age, my long covid or just not really grasping this level of stats but I’m baffled. I’ve got a whole day tomorrow to sit and work at it, I would be grateful for any hints / tips from anyone who is proficient in using it. Thanks!

Hopeful bump for the evening MNetters.

well I have heard of it. I believe it does Bayesian stats in an interface that looks similar to SPSS. So rather than doing a t-test in SPSS, you can put the same data into JASP and it will give you the Bayesian version of a t-test. but I haven't used it myself, and I think it is a pretty niche topic.

have you tried StackOverflow? that is pretty good for solving tech / stats issues.

Jasp is way more user friendly than alternatives such as SPSS.
The key is to know exactly what you want to do at a conceptual level before you even open the software. The actual implementation is pretty straightforward.
(The Bayesian stuff is a useful add on but can be ignored if that isn't what you want.)

But the key point is that as an student you are paying to be trained in any methods that you need. So don't be shy in asking for help. I would never expect a student to feel they need to ask Mumsnet for stats help. It's my job to help them.

Thanks for the replies.

Niche is about right! It’s doing my head in. Well, either that or the long covid really has broken me and I’m not processing the information well enough to be able to understand what the hell I’m doing…

Good point @ShinyHatStand and what you said about paying for the training really made me think about how much of this MSc is self-taught. I have emailed to request some support.
