Passport renewal

If you’ve recently renewed an adult passport did you have to have a counter signature? Did they just accept your new picture was recognisable from your old one?

My passport expired in 2019 and now my family have financially recovered from Covid times, we’d like to go away in the new year. So I obviously need to get mine renewed.

It says online “ A countersignature is often not required if you're renewing a passport. That's unless your appearance has changed significantly since your previous or most current passport photo was taken”

I don’t really have anyone I could ask to sign it for me so it would help so much if I didn’t need one.

No you don't need a countersignature for a renewal, and also, they will know/be able to tell it's still you - even ten years later. Smile Have a great holiday!

My DS has just applied for his first adult passport, his child one had expired, he didn’t need it counter signed. Applied online was was back in a week, impressed with the quick turnaround.

Wonderful, sounds like mine should be fine if a child didn’t need a signature. I’ll apply at the weekend

You shouldn't need a countersignature unless you look drastically different from your old passport picture

I didn't need a countersignature when I renewed my passport last month (I had photo done in photobooth in to get a verified one) . Submitted application and posted old passport and new one arrived in less than a week! I definitely look at least ten years older! Think it might be a quiet time of year for Passport offices, have a lovely time!

My dd didn't, aged 6 on her old passport, now aged 13.

I renewed my adult passport online on Sunday. No extra signature needed. I paid £3.50 to have my old passport uplifted on Monday by the Royal Mail from my house. I got an update text on Wednesday to say my old passport had arrived safely. I've just had a text to say my new passport is arriving tomorrow between 12 noon - 1 pm. Amazing service and I didn't half to pay Fast Track,
