Buffyverse couples

I'm re-watching Buffy (as you do) and am thinking of how I would've coupled them up for the happily ever after.

Buffy with Riley (the whole point of Angel leaving was to make space for someone who could give her what he couldn't)

Angel with Harmony (I mulled this over for ages; I thought he belongs with Cordi, but actually he needs someone silly and light-hearted, with a bit of bloodsucking thrown in)

Cordi with Xander (her high standards push him to become a successful business owner and they have a nice life)

Willow eternally single, having become a supreme witch, she's outgrown human notions of love and neediness. Or maybe Oz returns and he's very wolfy and they have a new kind of relationship

Wesley with Illyria

Not sure what to do with Gunn, possibly a newly invented childhood sweetheart

Spike - no idea!

Giles with Buffy's mum

Faith with the principal guy she ended up with anyway

I'd also scrap the whole Buffy's little sister arch - what rubbish that was.

I could not disagree more!

Apart from Giles and Joyce.

winniethedoo · 07/11/2023 19:16

I also quite liked Cordelia and Xander, much preferred them together than him with Anyai can't believe how heartbroken I was in my late teens when Buffy had to kill Angel. Now I'd be offing him myself so I could be with Spike 🤣

winniethedoo · 07/11/2023 19:16

So on reflection, I don't disagree that much 😀

Spike with Dru

Willow with Oz (Tara was too good for late-era Willow)

Xander with Cordelia

Buffy with Angel

Giles with Jenny

(Can you tell season two was my favourite?)

My God, social worker Anne was Chanterelle?! Proof that clean hair makes you a different person!

PS Anya was insufferable, Tara triply so.

Chanterelle is really called Lily. She bumps into Buffy in series 2/1 (I think) when Buffy has fled and is working in the diner under her middle name. She is with her boyfriend Ricky and they go into that demon dimension where the demon pretends to be a born again Christian, can't remember his name [shame]. At the end of the episode she says she doesn't know who she is without Ricky, Buffy gives her her badge and her job and says she can be Anne

Xander is the right person for Buffy. He knows her better than any of the others, he is reliable and he loves her more than any of the other guys she has ever been with imho. He has seen her at her best and worse and vice versa. He's the person that you realise "has been there all the time".

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/11/2023 19:29

I thought Tara and willow were great together.

The whole buffy/spike/angel thing is far to close to home. The one you want is an arsehole once he gets what he wants from you and the one you end up with you will never have feelings for but you will shag them anyway.

I hated Riley he was boring. Would have probably suited cordelia though. Dull and reliable with superficial and annoying. You could run a book on who breaks first. Make some money out of it.

Giles and anya would have worked I think. I mean Giles would have grounded anya bit.

Wesley just needed to fuck off. Wtf was the point of him.

Agree with faith and the hot principle.. sickingly attractive couple...

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 07/11/2023 19:29

And I LOVE Joyce & Spike.
joyce could dress in the coat Ripper nicked for her in Band Candy :)

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew True, Xander’s loyalty and selflessness for his friends was impressive. But maybe they were too close friends to also be lovers.

Uhmmm Spike and the hot principal? Too far?

Okay, yeah Faith and Principal Wood is probably the better combination. 😂

arintingly · 07/11/2023 19:49

I love the show but kinda dislike most of the romances for some reason.

I feel like Buffy only ever really loved Angel but I never really liked Angel, especially on his own show.

I hated Willow and Tara because Tara was so drippy and seemed stoned half the time

I liked Anya but not with Xander, never felt like they had a lot in common

If I had to pick some couples, I would go:

Buffy/Faith - I feel like they had real chemistry and obviously lots in common

Giles/Anya - they both have a ruthless streak

Willow/Oz

Spike/Drusilla

Xander - who cares

whatausername · 07/11/2023 19:51

@arintingly omg I care!! Xander is so sweet and loyal.

I may be too invested in this...

Where could one find Buffy and Angel to watch these days?

heetud · 07/11/2023 20:28

Xander is so sweet and loyal.

WHAAAT?! Xander was a TWAT!

  1. didn't tell Buffy that Willow was working on the spell in Becoming part 2.
  2. cheated on Cordy
  3. only started fooling around with Willow out of subconscious jealousy of Oz not being her number 1 anymore.
  4. was horrible to Anya, rarely stood up for her, always put her down and the reason he broke off the wedding was shite (some bad writing on that I think)

Those are just a ones I remember quickly. Considering he is based on Joss himself it's not surprising he is a misogynistic character

heetud · 07/11/2023 20:31

I liked him when I was 16 but viewed him very differently as an adult!

Also the Buffy/Angel dynamic is pretty disturbing really....I view that VERY differently as a parent and adult!

Beezknees · 07/11/2023 20:34

Anything but Buffy/Spike. Always hated it.

Fck. I cancelled my Disney+ two days ago. 😂😱

TheJubileePortrait · 07/11/2023 21:06

Spike with Drusilla! Love those two together.

KatBurglar · 07/11/2023 21:46

Spike is Thomas from Ghosts!

How did I not see that? He writes shit poetry, he pines, he exists to worship someone.

OggyBunsen · 07/11/2023 21:50

Tara & Oz

They're both too good for Willow.

WimpiestMum · 07/11/2023 22:59

Willow with Oz (but not the oz who cheated on her. Wolfy but nice Oz).

Maybe Cordelia and Xander.

Everyone else was doomed. I thought Buffy and spike was a terrible pairing. She'd already done the vampire thing.

I loved the Faith and that mayor wannabe demon guy dynamic. It wasn't romantic but fatherly. He seemed to really care for her (well not enough to set her right but he did shed a tear when she was killed)

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/11/2023 07:20

Everyone else was doomed. I thought Buffy and spike was a terrible pairing. She'd already done the vampire thing

It made sense though. They werent romantically involved. He was her rock bottom and the only one who could see her pain and the only one she felt safe falling apart around. She needed that. Everyone was too busy deciding what was best for her without even asking her or Congratulating themselves on a job well done bringing her back to indulge their own selfishness. It was actually probably the most believable relationship of the lot. I was so angry though when they made him attempt to rape her and the Stockholmy shit after. Took things too far there for sure.

Spirro · 08/11/2023 07:26

Spuffy all the way 🙌

Spike is still the most beautiful vampire to ever grace the television set. I would watch a whole series just about him. You could cut glass with those cheekbones.

TallulahG · 08/11/2023 10:50

I cannot ever do Spuffy because of the rape scene. Without that I think I'd be shipping them but mentally I just can't get over it.

Absolutely Giles and Anya, or, Anya and a hot lesbian she meets in San Fran as suggested by a pp!

DaizenShine · 08/11/2023 11:19

Has all the Buffy and Spike fans forgot about the Seeing Red episode?!

Buffy and Angel were meant to be!
