So it’s shepherds pie if it’s lamb mince and cottage pie if it’s beef mince, but what is it if it’s turkey or chicken mince? 😅

We always use turkey nowadays for the avoidance of red meat seeing as it's considered so carcinogenic. Had a family discussion with various options raised and settled on Gobble Pie.
Never used chicken though. Maybe Cluck Pie?

We call them all 'Precious Pie' after the first time my granddaughter helped me make one. She looked at it and say 'I'm really going to enjoy this precious pie Nana'.

I think she meant delicious but Precious has stuck.

We don't eat beef so always substitute beef mince with either turkey or pork mince but still call it cottage pie! So anytime you would use beef mince we use turkey or pork so lasagne, meatballs, chilli, tacos etc.

Shepherds pie is lamb mince.

I always tell mine that cottage pie is made from real cottages, and shepherd's pie with real shepherds.

Mind you, they are 13 and 24, so they may not believe me 🤔🤣

Sliced potatoes on top is a thatched cottage pie in my house

That is just adorable!

How old is your granddaughter now?

And when I accidentally use a batch of chilli in a defrosting mixup it's alpaca pie! 🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙

@ElleLeopine she's 7 now & it's still one of her favourites.

So do I! I tell them it was made from a cottage that had a lovely thatched roof 😂

I make a green bean salad that is always known as “disgusting beans” as that is what DS called it when he was little. (He likes it, now.)

I did this once and called it Mexicano pie 😂

So - taking this further - what do you call it if it's made with leftover meat minced up? I still call it cottage pie, but in deference to my husband it's usually leftovers cottage pie.
And don't knock it until you've tried it... Leftover meat minced up with a bit of onion and mixed with some good gravy, with mashed potato on top and cooked is delicious!

Elderflower14 · 08/11/2023 06:57

I use minced pork and call it Pigmans Pie!! 🤣 🤣
