Would you call 111?

I work in the NHS as a hca, but when it comes to my children I always feel a little unsure what to do, my 5 year old has been sent home from school as she was sick (once) her temperature is up in the 39's and she has slept all afternoon. Her ear looks red and she says it hurt. Should I call 111?

No.. sounds like she’s just under the weather. I’d just give some calpol and keep an eye.

I would just try and call GP in the morning for an appointment and give calpol tonight.

Nothing 111 can say really apart from go to A&E if bad enough.

111 may be able to book you a OOH GP appointment.

I don't know if it's area specific but last time I rang 111 told me they don't do that anymore. They couldn't even book me a place in at a walk in clinic.

They basically said call GP yourself or go to A&E if it gets bad.

I wouldn't call 111 for that. If you think ear infection, they don't give out antibiotics so readily any more.

See if Calpol brings temp down. Lots of fluids. Call 111 if things like fast breathing, disoriented, hard to rouse, rash that won't go away etc.

Thanks all, given her calpol (hoping she isn't sick again)
