Temp car insurance for new driver

Aarghh. DD passed her test last week. I'd like to insure her on my car between now and Christmas. I am giving her her own car for Christmas so at that point I'd like to take her off my policy and get some money back pro rata (as a new driver her cover is really expensive).

Asked my insurance company and they said they don't give a refund when a driver is removed. Adding her will cost £2000 even if we only need the cover until Christmas.

So I've been looking into temporary insurance but every company seems to want her licence number, which we don't have yet as she's still waiting for the physical licence.

Any ideas? If anyone knows a temporary insurance co that doesn't need a licence number that would be really helpful.

Surely the license number is the same as the provisional one?

The only reason it would change is if she had changed her name.

Ah ha! Thank you.

I had my dad added on to my car insurance for a fixed period (probably 4 weeks) after I had a c section. Can't remember who my insurance company was at the time, it was nearly 10 Years ago.

Could you transfer the cover to a new car at Christmas time? That'll help her get to 1 year no claims. Does your insurance company offer multi car policies?

Btw op, we added our son to our Ford Fiesta insurance policy for just £120 after he passed his test (with DirectLine), but while he was learning we used Veygo temporary add-on insurance.

So they're saying they don't give a refund for goods not used? That really shit if true.

You could add her from x to y date in the first instance and only pay for what you need?

A colleague of mine used cuvva as temp insurance and could just do his drive to work and home or a full day. No idea how good/bad they are upon claiming.

I also used Cuvva insurance for a couple of weeks so I could drive my daughters car while mine was being fixed. Very easy to use and not too expensive for the convenience.
