Listening to a different audiobook while also having an actual book on the go?

I don't mean listening to a different book at the same time as reading another I mean listening to the audiobook (Fiction or Non-Fiction) l at various points throughout the day doing chores, walking etc while also reading a different novel or non-fiction book before bed, a lunch time and so on.

How do you feel about this, does doing this distract or muddle from one book or the other?

I usually read and listen to podcasts and this isn't really an issue but I have started an audible subscription and my first book was Into the Uncanny, which was fine as it was a lot like the podcast but I wonder how it will be now to listen to one audiobook while reading another especially having two novels on the go at the same time one audio and one read.

I'm just curious how people find this?

I do the same. No problems with having more than one book on the go.

theduchessofspork · 06/11/2023 20:57

Sure, I can easily have 4 books on the go

MonsteraMama · 06/11/2023 20:58

I normally have two or three audio books on the go and two or three actual books. Drives my husband insane as he can strictly only listen to or read one at a time.

I do this all the time. In fact I usually listen to an audio book, read a different kindle book and have another paperback book on the go at once.

Of course, perfectly normal to have a few books on the go. You wouldn't just watch one TV show or listen to one album at a time would you? I have a few and then dip into whatever takes my fancy when I get a few minutes.

Frenchfancy · 06/11/2023 21:01

I nearly always have one of each on the go, and often another on the kindle.

It is no different to having several TV series on the go at once (like we all used to before streaming)

commandbrew · 06/11/2023 21:04

@OverTheCountryClub I usually read one book at a time but will also read poetry, short stories, sections of non-fiction books, articles and so on. I probably wouldn't read multiple full books at a time but get through books quite quickly. I kind of do just also watch one show at a time, I usually save them all up and then watch one episode a day for a week, I don't watch much tv. I would watch some movies interspersed though so I see what you mean.

I have always had several books on the go at the same time, and it's the same for audio books too. I have never been confused, although it was very slightly unsettling the time that there were almost identical protagonist personalities in two books with very different storylines, but that only happened once.

If you can watch several different tv series where there is a new episode each week then you can read more than one book at a time IMO.

commandbrew · 06/11/2023 21:05

@theduchessofspork I never really do this, I do read other stuff but I usually read one book at a time, I do get though most books very quickly though.

I'm listening to Vol. 2 of the Lucia novels as I do things around the house, one in the car, one to make me sleep, as well as the next book club novel (hard copy).

Chickenkorma64 · 06/11/2023 21:08

I usually have a couple of audiobooks on the go and a kindle book to read. Works well for me, and if you get a bit fed up with one, it’s good to swap around

commandbrew · 06/11/2023 21:08

Well I suppose if you lot can do multiple audiobooks and novels all at the same time then I can read a book and listen to an audiobook at the same time.

Although I don't seem me doing multiples of both at the same time, I normally don't watch lots of different shows at the same time either but as I said I don't watch much tv so I usually have just one show I am watching at anyone time.

Also always have multiple books on the go, electronic kindle ones on different devices (3 at the moment) plus two audio books and then some paper ones too. But if you prefer then one reading book and one audio book can work too.

SamBeckett · 06/11/2023 21:25

I listen to books and used to read other books ( crappy eye sight means I don't read much anymore)
I just make sure the books are different from each other so I wouldn't listen / read 2 different Sherlock Holmes stories or 2 wrote by the same author.

I am also a big fan of uncanny and really need to catch up on the series 😀
