Please recommend book for 13 year old

My ds is turning 13 later this month and I am just asking for some age appropriate book recommendations please.

DS is almost 13 and loves Anthony Horowitz especially the Alex Ryder series. There's some by Wilbur Smith too that are aimed at the same age which he likes too.

Teenage spies is a good genre. A bit of action, adventure and usually silly gadgets.

If he's constantly not starting the books he has or is stopping a page in perhaps he just doesn't like reading that much?

I'd either take him to Waterstones and let him pick his own, which usually helps drum up more enthusiasm, or have you thought about an Audible subscription so he can be read them instead?

We’ve been to the library together but that didn’t go down well!

Have you tried non fiction. My 13 year old DS never finishes any fiction, but politics, history etc he'll read.

I work in a secondary school library.
Our boys read a lot of manga and some love comic books. And unsurprisingly the students of either gender who read a lot have higher reading ages and do better generally in exams. But the students don't have to read harder books to gain higher reading ages. So if he wants to read diary of a wimpy kid or simpsons comics that's fine as well. As my old school librarian said if you ban comic books they don't put down Spiderman and pick up Dickens!
