Hey all,

DS(17) has just passed his theory and getting him a practical test is proving impossible! Any recommendations for apps, websites or anything that can help get a test sooner?

Thanks in advance!

Get up on Monday morning so that you are logged into the Gov website for 6am when the new batch of tests are released. You'll find that you're looking at a test in about 6 months, probably, but once you have an initial date you can try for cancellations that are closer. DS passed his test today, so it can be done! Good luck!

Just book whatever you can wherever possible and then you can pay an app to spring on the next available one in your area. I had one booked for too early and in the wrong location and then it got one for me a few months later at the right test centre. It's called Faster Driving Test

Lockdown has caused a huge backlog for practical driving tests.

In 2022 dd had to wait 7months for her test though I do know some of her friends booked their test then managed to get a cancellation within a few months.

Our dc was having lessons with a big school of motoring. They booked tests for all pupils as soon as they passed the theory test (we just paid and they sorted everything else out) then they jiggled the bookings amongst the instructors depending whose pupils were ready. Dc’s original date was for the middle of June but they actually passed in March due to the system used but they SOM.

Could this be an option for your ds?

Book a random test for anywhere/anytime, literally just whatever’s available - it just makes it easier to log on and find a cancellation. DD’s driving instructor says that things at the minute are the worst he’s ever seen it in terms of not even being able to get a cancellation though so don’t get your hopes up! Her test was booked in early August for mid December, she’s been logging on daily to find a cancellation as she’s been ready for quite a while now but no luck unfortunately. God forbid she doesn’t pass as the nightmare will start all over again!!

Thank you everyone, really appreciate the advice. Have booked a random test in the hope that at least if he’s in the system it’s a start.

Will update if I make any progress in case it helps others 😀
