What vitamins/supplements can you not do without?

Particularly if you're mid 40s.

Also, iron - any decent alternatives to ferrous fumerate/sulphate.

I already take thyroxine.

I guess what I mean is that it is so individual. Some people may be able to get all the vitamin D they need from mushrooms, others can’t even with high supplementing.

I agree we need to know the dangers and interactions. I think at some point in the future we will have a very individual, tailored approach to supplements.

It’s definitely worth getting tested if you can afford it. I was quite high in vitamin D (not dangerously so) so I’ve dropped that down a bit.

Definitely. I know I can take the max daily dose of 4000IU and be absolutely fine whereas others might not

I think a lot of night shift workers are probably deficient and not aware, it's something that should be more publicised

I agree. And different ethnicities absorb vitamin D at different rates. It’s also a hormone so really important for many functions in the body.

That’s why I have a slight issue with Tim and his ‘just eat a few mushrooms’ malarkey.

I take a range of vitamins daily:
Vitamin b12, c &d
Magnesium
Evening primrose
Cod liver oil
Milk thistle

The one I notice most of I don't take is fibre husk. I used to be really irregular with my bowels (2-3 times a week), now it's daily.

I've never taken a vitamin in my life. I didn't realise so many people did.

I hadn't taken anything but folic acid when pregnant until I became menopausal. Then it was all hands to the pump!

@Gymnopedie I take the thyroxine in the morning, the Dr didn't actually tell me about not taking iron with it, I found that out for myself. So, I take it later, but honestly, I often forget.
