Where is my MacBook charger - help me think of places it might be?

I’m absolutely exhausted. I’ve turned the house upside down looking for it all day. I’ve checked under my bed, in my wardrobe, in handbags, coat pockets.

I’m on placement for uni tomorrow morning and will be expected to use my laptop for teams meetings all day, plus I have an essay due on Wed and two pieces of work due tomorrow.

I can’t afford another proper charger right now.

I have a dodgy one off Amazon but when I’ve used it tonight my laptop’s felt a bit vibratey/buzzy and I’m pretty sure it gave me an electric shock when I touched it (the laptop I mean).

I’ve checked literally everywhere possible, I’ve even stripped my bed and checked through bin bags and washing.

It’s definitely in the house, I was using it on Friday most of the day. I can’t understand where the hell it’s gone.

You don’t by any chance have a Nintendo switch do you? It’s the same charging wire. Not sure about the voltage.

Work2live · 05/11/2023 21:46

Sounds stupid but is it plugged in somewhere and you’ve almost looked ‘past’ it??

Has someone in your house nicked it?

Were you cleaning and unplugged it?

BitOutOfPractice · 05/11/2023 21:47

Work bag? In the car?

oh op I do hope you find it op

ConspicuouslyDifferent · 05/11/2023 21:47

Could it have fallen out in the car?

QPWO · 05/11/2023 21:48

I found my charger in the laundry bin just now after an all day hunt. Worth a try?

fivetriangulartrees · 05/11/2023 21:49

Plugged into a socket you don't usually use? Kicked under the settee? Behind the door that's always open? Dressing gown pocket? Child has hidden it in their wardrobe? Partner thought it was theirs and put it in their work bag. Those are the best places to look in my house.

grumpycow1 · 05/11/2023 21:50

Did you pack it in your bag/rucksack? Check pockets of all your regular bags. Any random plug sockets behind a bed or sofa?

grumpycow1 · 05/11/2023 21:51

If not hopefully someone will have one you can borrow at your placement? I forgot mine last week at work and there were about 3 people with one

Headchecked · 05/11/2023 21:52

Plugged in by your bed, under a pile of clothes on bedroom or landing, in a plastic bag, in the car, in the washing basket, in the kitchen.

MaliciaKeys · 05/11/2023 21:55

In the washing machine, under the settee, on top of the bookcase, next to the coffee jar in the kitchen, on the windowsill of the spare bedroom.

In the washing machine? Shock
Check every plug socket in the house. Ask any other residents to show you all their chargers.
Work outwards from where you had it on Friday - check immediate area, then whole room, then adjacent rooms etc etc

In a draw.

I sometimes "helpfully" tidy up.
But then forget I've tidied up and put something away properly.

Other places, could be, the fridge/freezer, cupboard.
I know it sounds insane, but have a quick look.

nosweepingexists · 05/11/2023 22:27

I’ve checked everywhere possible. I’m in student accommodation, so only have my room, en-suite and shared kitchen.

Its definitely not in the kitchen, have checked my drawers, cupboards and fridge shelf.

It’s not in the laundry, as I never took it through there. It’s not any of my drawers, or my wardrobe.

Checked my coat pockets, and jeans pockets - not in there. Did a huge load of washing today so if it was amongst that I’d have found it - not there.

Checked bin that needs taking out - not in there.

I don’t get it, I can’t think where else it could be. I don’t want to use the dodgy one as it doesn’t fit well to the wall socket which is concerning, I don’t want to shock myself somehow.

I’ve even stripped my bed and pulled bed away from the wall but not there either.

the only other places it could be - highly unlikely - my GP surgery; but I think I’d have noticed by now, I had a nurses appt on Friday so in theory it could be there but I think the nurse would have called me, or student union but I didn’t take it out of ny bag at all when we were having coffee. I’ve been using my laptop all weekend so I must have it- I just can’t find it.

would the dodgy charger be safe for one night?

Your child's room

wibdib · 05/11/2023 22:33

If you’re in shared accommodation, could somebody have borrowed it without asking ?

I completely understand what you’re going through - I’ve lost my MacBook charger and I’m almost at the point of having to buy a new one as it’s now dead and I need to use it again! At least it should help get things tidied up in the lounge (where I suspect it is!

good luck…

CesareBorgia · 05/11/2023 22:33

Will it not charge through a generic usb c lead?

CanIPetThatDawg · 05/11/2023 22:35

Say a prayer to St Anthony. That lad always comes up trumps for me.

Toddler101 · 05/11/2023 22:35

Dressing gown pocket?

In the pocket of something that's in the wash. I lost my car keys that way and only found them when I was hanging out the washing and they fell out of my jeans.

MarilynBoo · 06/11/2023 10:31

Have you studied in a library or cafe recently? Have you travelled anywhere and left it in a suitcase or wheely bag? Maybe it was left in shared kitchen and someone pinched it or thought it was theirs?
