New kitten- where to sleep?

Have name changed as I've added a picture of the new addition.

We picked him up this morning, he's been a big brave boy and has had lunch and dinner, water, used his litter tray twice and has been playing in the lounge with some toys and our feet (!)

If my 6 and 3 year old DS left the room he'd cry straight away.

I don't want him to stay down tonight, he has no interest yet in the cat bed we've bought him, he's had a few naps on the rug in the lounge today against the sofa. He's too tiny to be on a human bed without getting hurt.
Where should I be putting the wee beast?

Thanks

The extra costs are definitely a considerable (I have 4 cats...) Sometimes they get on less well as adults, but my current pair will still snuggle up together and they're 5 years old now.

Consideration... although sometimes considerable!

He should sleep... with me! Although that is totally mad because I am allergic to the little cuties - sorry, no constructive advice.

Blanket on the bottom of one of your beds!

He is gorgeous. I wouldn't want him in the bed with me, as you say I'd be terrified of squashing him. I know it's not great but could you sleep on the sofa with him for a night or two. It's better if he gets used to one room at a time.

blackbirdsinginginthenight · 05/11/2023 21:22

@helpfulperson yes perhaps that's the best idea for now

Our cat came as a single kitten and has always slept on our bed except the first couple of nights when she would leave underneath the sideboard. She then starting scratching at our door and refused to use a cat bed even though I got her a lovely one. This is her 9 years later

I’m so sorry I’m no help but I want to squish him! 😍

Your bed obviously as per Daphne’s lead.

So, where did he sleep?
He is just the cutest little thing.

I wouldn't take the kitten upstairs unless he is going to have the run of the house when he gets older? Our cats were never allowed upstairs because they got shut in, to bedrooms, cupboards etc., by the children by mistake, and finding cat pee and poo in the piles of clean sheets and towels plus, of course, a very distressed cat, was a step too far.
I would sleep on the sofa downstairs with the kitten. Get it used to sleeping downstairs in a cat bed or similar and then gradually leave it for longer overnight until it can sleep on its own. It will need somewhere warm where it feels safe and it has probably never been on its own before.

I had a pop up pen thing from Amazon when I got my kitten. I had her in it next to my bed so she could still see me. It was big enough to have a bed in there and a small litter tray. She really liked it in there. She was absolutely tiny when I got her and my house is all open plan so we couldn't shut her anywhere to keep her safe.

It was also good when she had an operation and had to have 2 weeks cage rest!

He has been sleeping on our bed- I bought litter tray and food up, and a cat carrier with blanket in, but he was straight in the bed. Sleep, eat, loo, play, repeat! Two or three times in the night. He's so gorgeous though and sooo lovely when he settles down next to you for a cuddle
