Hi. Wonder if you could help please. Going with an elderly bit unsteady on her feet relative to the Derby Royal Hospital. Going on the train then a taxi. I dont drive but its quicker to do it this way and I know parking is a nightmare there. Think she is looking forward to going on the train too! Need to kill about 2 hours whilst she having a minor procedure. I think there is an Aldi opposite there but I tried to Google it but can't see if there is any retail parks/home bargains etc I could walk to or jump on bus. I know there is a direct bus to Derby , would this be my best bet to kill a bit of time? . Rather be a bit nearer. Thanks.

Hi, there is Aldi opposite and also a pub that serves food. About a mile away is the Kingsway retail park with Next Boots T K Maax, smyths toys, Sainsbury’s, Hobbeycraft and various cafes

Ahh thank you. I will look to see if a bus goes there or walkable. Perhaps I will just take my kindle and have a drink in the hospital and perhaps walk over to Aldi. Will look in to the place you said. Thanks again.

Yeps the Kingsway shopping area is very walkable, less than a mile I would say. Maybe 10+ mins' brisk walk. No bus there tho. I see Google says it takes 21 mins to walk but is 0.9 of a mile. That's pretty slow walking IMO so if you are a fit enough adult I reckon 15 mins or less.

Also includes Costa and Greggs!

I grew up really close, and my Mum is sadly a regular at the Royal.

Not much very inspiring within walking distance. Aldi over the road, plus a pub, the mallards. Then a manageable walk to the Kingsway Retail Park which has a next, Hobbycraft, m&s food, TK Maxx, Sainsbury's, Homebase, Costa, Boots and a couple of other shops plus a pub.

If you got a taxi or bus you could go into Derby but perhaps not worth it for a couple of hours.

Thank you both. Really useful. Sorry your mom has to go to the hospital.
