9 year old with low blood pressure

My son is 9 and has low systolic blood pressure (it’s 81 today). His diastolic is normal.

He is on medication for adhd which usually raises your blood pressure if anything, but it’s got lower.

He is always saying he is tired and feels sick (just a bit, not terribly), but he also has autism so gets tired from all the interaction with the world, and is on omeprazole for bad reflux/stomach pain/nausea.

Should I be concerned about the blood pressure? The clinic handling his adhd medication said it was odd and they hadn’t known the medication to cause lower blood pressure but nothing else. I think they thought it would right itself but it’s been over 6 months and it hasn’t.

Get him to drink a glass of water or 2 and try again half an hour after that

My children had low blood pressure throughout their childhood- there were no issues apart from fainting if made to stand still for too long, so they didn't

Thanks! @HappiDaze he definitely doesn’t drink enough water (or enough anything) so that’s probably at least part of the equation.

My DD has had low blood pressure recently and faints, we were told to increase salt & fluids. If you can get him to drink those diarolite powders try those for him.

HappiDaze · 05/11/2023 17:15

You don't need to buy the powders

Just dissolve a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar into a bit of warm water then top up with cold water and give it to him to drink - I mean that's normally only given if really dehydrated from diarrhoea etc

But you can try it to see if helps with his low BP

You could add Ribena or whatever for the taste
