When do I turn up for a comedy gig?

I have a ticket to see a comedian, never been to anything like this and I'm confused about when to arrive. The email says doors open at 7 for 8pm show. I know there are support acts to see and I want to be there at the start. Should I be there ready to go in at 7 or can I turn up at 7.50? There are 2 of us and we would like to sit together but it's not crucial. This sounds really naive even as I write it but I don't want to turn up at 7.45 and the support acts have already started!

Supports will start at 8
Main comedian at 9 probably

If you can check on the acts' and/or venue's website/social media to see if they put up stage times. If the tickets say 7pm doors for 8pm show I'd turn up at 7.45.

Brilliant thanks both 7.45 it is! The tickets say exactly that @soupmaker and I couldn't find more detail anywhere, I was hoping to find out who the support acts were but it doesn't really matter tbh as I've not been out without kids since 2020 so anyone will be exciting!

Most comedy gigs don't offer pre-booked seats, so those who get there first get the best seats, so I'd personally aim to be there at the time the doors open. If your tickets do have seats pre-allocated you can afford to arrive later, but aim to be there by the start time.

Some venues are really strict and won’t let you in after a certain time but if your ticket says 7 for 8, I’d get there 7.40pm or a bit before if you want a drink.

HamstersAreMyLife · 05/11/2023 16:14

Thank you! I'll be driving so can't have a drink. Tbh when I booked this my plan was for a big night out with dinner, drinks then this so I wasn't worried before but now this is all I'm doing I want to make the most of it! No allocated seats but I don't mind sitting alone so I don't think having a great seat is going to be an issue!

😂that’s wicked!

OP, if there is no allocated seating then I’d be there at 6:45 with elbows sharpened. Otherwise you’ll be in the front row. And that’s all very well if you’re seeing an established comedian and know what to expect. Not necessarily so much fun if you find that you are part of the act of somebody a bit more unpredictable.
