Leftover mash recipes?

MrShady · 04/11/2023 13:44

I have leftover mash and want to use it up!
Got about 150g and it's got mustard in
I have plain flour in but no bicarb etc. apart from that fairly well stocked

Any ideas?

I love a bit of stoemp (recipe here but I've not tried this one www.hintofhealthy.com/stoemp-belgian-mashed-potatoes-with-vegetables/)

Make some shortcrust pastry; mix the mash with a load of grated cheddar and make cheese and potato pasties.

Make potato cakes/farls/scones, quick and easy. Serve with bacon or sausage or eggs, or alongside soup.

Add fish to make fishcakes

Stick a cube of cheddar in a walnut sized piece of mash and then dip it in beaten egg. Then dip in the flour and straight into hot oil. They are delicious. You can flavour the mash with chilli flakes if you like.

Bubble and squeak. Love it.

Nothing fancy but I usually make tuna and spring onion fishcakes/patties with ours as everyone likes them and they're easy to fry up for lunch the next day with some salad.

Alternatively I'll make a some sort of 'pie' filling - chicken and mushroom or chicken and leek, cover in the mash and whack in the oven.

Oh potato scones sounds good
I have eggs and beans so that seems to be a plan for tea tomorrow!

I'm using some of the mash tonight with a chicken pie I've already made
The rest is mince and tatties

Potato cakes! Add a bunch of grated cheese, some extra seasoning (S&P plus rosemary can be nice), an egg for binding, if bit sloppy can mix in a bit of flour then form patties, flour both sides and fry off in plenty of olive oil. Can take the mash out to reach room temp first so not waiting to be piping hot in middle before outside overdone. Delicious and whenever we make mash we always make loads so can have potato cakes the following day. Not sure how far 150g will stretch though tbf

Put it in a quiche - leek, potato and red onion, for example

filthypride · 04/11/2023 15:52

Just add cheese!

It's only me so I don't need to stretch it too far luckily

Add lump of butter and sprinkle of seasalt, microwave then eat as your own private snack!

PumpkinSpiceSeason · 04/11/2023 16:12

KFC used to do these bowls in the early 00s.

Crunchy chicken
Mashed potato
Bit of cheese
Bit of corn
Bit of gravy

A few chicken nuggets, handful of frozen corn, a knob of cheese and some packet gravy would be close enough.

I mix it with grated cheese and onion. Put it in muffin tins and bake. Yum.

Sometimes I mix left over mash, with leftover meat/veg/cheese or any combination , roll on breadcrumbs and bake the balls in the air fryer. I’ve done it with leftovers over sheprhards pie. Shepherds pie balls etc lol. The kids don’t realise they are kind of eating the same thing as the night before lol

Damn why did I eat the last of the chicken nuggets yesterday! I even have a KFC gravy copy in the cupboard
