car part unavailable in the uk

Hi
I have a Dacia sandero which needs a new timing chain. This part is seemingly unavailable in the Uk. The garage has also tried france and Spain. This has been ongoing for months. I emailed a company in Romania who spoke english and said they didn’t have the part but could see it on a website in latvia. I don’t speak latvian so have no idea what i am buying and there appears to be 3 versions with the same part number ( and it isn’t cheap!) . Does anyone speak latvian or know a good way around this? Thanks so much

I was expecting you were looking for a part availability in Germany which would be quite an easy problem to solve.

Most people can speak English all over the world.

Just call the representative in Latvia, or, even better, send an e-mail in English.
If they spoke English in Romania, I can't see why they wouldn't do the same in Latvia.

Thanks. The Romanian website offered other languages whereas this one is solely in latvian. I have emailed to ask . It isn’t a main dealer rather a link sent by the helpful Romanian company. I think on the Dacia forums this part is proving hard to get hold of.

Oh I see, so you can't even read the Latvian website!
Follow up with a phone call later today, in case they are open on Saturdays and they may well speak English.
Does Google translate help at all?
Hopefully a Latvian speaking MNer will contribute on here with more practical help.

@Peacefullythoughtful Hi OP, I am not a fluent Latvian speaker but fine on reading and listening. Post the link and I’ll have a look.

Google translate ?

Have you tried any scrap yards?

Peacefullythoughtful · 07/11/2023 22:31

Thanks so much for the replies. A mechanic friend has deciphered the website and concluded it is not the right part sadly. Thank you so much @Milkmani for your really kind offer. Unfortunately as it’s a timing chain i have been advised the part has to be new. It seems to be a problem with Dacias that this part is hard to find in this model.

You could try breakers yards, someone must have had a crash in one recently!

VeniVidiWeeWee · 07/11/2023 23:23

Confused. Do you mean a timing belt? Dacia's website suggests all their cars have these and most cars with chains generally don't require replacement.

Peacefullythoughtful · 08/11/2023 12:33

Sadly it is definitely a chain - it has been damaged and needs replacing. I will try the moroccan website - thank you very much

It is a very basic model and not very popular hence parts are hard to find! It is a renault engine and the mechanic specialises in these engines. it has been historically really hard to get parts for and has been off the road for 4-6 weeks each time something goes wrong! this time it’s been off the road since September. On the plus side I am
getting fitter!

But why can't Dacia UK source the part?
Don't they keep spares for their own cars?

That's very shortsighted of them, and why I stick to VW or Ford - where parts are readily available for years on end from the dealer, and even longer on the 2nd hand market.

Shade17 · 08/11/2023 14:21

What’s the year and engine size?

Peacefullythoughtful · 08/11/2023 21:05

it’s 3017 and 1.0.

The part number is 8201741144 and it has to be that exact one. I am so grateful for the help- thank you
