Don't think this is head lice... (no pic!)

Just combed my daughter's hair. I normally do this every few weeks but it's been a while since I last did it.

The comb is removing lots of what appears to be dandruff (a bit yellow) as well as lots of tiny black things. I don't think it's lice though. I've dealt with lice 3 times before and this looks different. When I look through my not-very-good magnifying glass the black specks look almost like dark ear wax. There's no movement, no obvious eggs, no apparently live lice. She does sometimes have a very dry scalp and often needs medicated cream behind her ears...

Anything else it could be? Or am I just kidding myself?

I used to pop the eggs between my thumbnails

They make a snapping sound, I'd try that

Might just be grit or dirt?

Seems a bit suss to be removing black things though, right?

I remember when my DD had head lice, the lice themselves would differ in size (depending on whether they were adults or juveniles I guess). So it could be that?

I would treat it like lice and systematically comb through every inch of scalp root to tip, just to be sure. It sounds like it’s more likely to be lice than not tbh. Bastard things.

🤢 I'll get my partner to do that try that in the morning.

Yeah, you're right I suppose @Jellycats4life. I'll just keep combing. She has really long hair. It takes ages and is really difficult to get through (unlike her sister who is checked thoroughly in about 2 min).
