Swimwear for us hairy ladies!

EmmaDilemma5 · 03/11/2023 17:08

I've hit a point in my life where I just don't have the time or the will to remove excess pubic hair before swimming (or at all generally!). I have dark hair and genetics means I'm fairly hairy, my pubic hair grows at least an inch down from the swimwear line so if I don't shave - it's obvious. To me anyway. I do trim from time to time, but its still visible unless I shave or wax etc which I'm trying to avoid and I'd just love to go swimming and not have to worry at all about what state I'm in!

Does anyone have any recommendations for swimwear that will cover my upper legs/pelvic area and not look too naff? I'm thinking along the lines of boyshort style bottoms but in a suit rather than bikini (my tummy is also shot since kids).

Thanks!

Thanks everyone, glad the thread is useful to other too!

I've purchased three types of swim wear from Amazon; the one I linked earlier, a different variation on that, and a pair of board style shorts that I can slip over my existing costume. Fingers crossed at least one fits as the sizing seems a bit strange!

Thanks all, no idea why I hadn't looked on Amazon before! A real revelation!

I always search for boy leg tankinis which are perfect for exactly this.

However, I know you didn't ask, but I'd just like to say that people won't be noticing/looking at your pubic hair anyway. We're always SO much more aware of things we see as 'wrong' with our bodies than other people are.

I know, you're so right, no one else will care (maybe my husband who comes with when we take the kids).

But I care. I can't knowingly walk around with my pubes curling round my cozzie. I'm confident but not that confident. And I don't like spending the whole hour shuffling it around. It's worth noting I'm often in the toddler area with my youngest so my full body is out of the water bar my feet.

I got this, plain black one piece but like shorts rather than bikini cut. It's just plain (got it for work as I do exercise classes in water) but cheap and does the job! I also have a mum tum and it hides it ok and I never have to worry about shaving!

I ordered from seafancy ten days before my trip, but they they took three weeks to arrive and I was back by then. They’ve been very weird about returns. First they asked if I’d like to donate the swimsuits to friends and family, then offered me a small percent of a refund to save me the bother of returning. Bear in mind the return fee is £20 as it’s going back to the States which is not obvious on the website. Then they offered me 60% refund and keep the suits which i accepted as fed up with dealing with them, but after multiple emails still no refund. So I would avoid.

There's lots with shorts on Amazon eg

Or search ones with skirts, there a quite a few. Eg

sets beloe

or - you can just buy swim boy shorts at next / landsend/decathlon / Amazon and pair them with whatever Tankini

some looser sets at the bottom - or you can just buy swim shorts from decathlon or Amazon and again pair with Tankini tops

Or if you want something longer get board shorts

retailers that do plus size like Yours will have longer Tankini tops if you want that

I think shorts of some sort always look better than swim dresses. But if you do do dresses then sporty A line a lot better than those with loads of fabric

I just think swimming pools will be bound to have some of the sort of annoying little boys that would notice even a dimply/saggy bum and point it out, let alone a pube. Why risk it? Might as well just cover up. Otherwise I wouldn't go at all. Chuck on some swim leggings and I can do that aquarobics or whatever without worrying about it so much.

shoeawsome · 03/11/2023 23:53

What about men's swimming trunks over a costume or with a Tankini top!

Someone once suggested that on here & it blew my mind!

That means you get pockets!

MammaTill2Pojkar · 04/11/2023 00:15

I got something similar to this from dresslily years ago, covers my pubic area, hides my belly and is feminine and flattering.

Some of the surfing brands have little shorts you could wear over a swimsuit. If you get fairly short ones (or a nice pattern) they shouldn't look frumpy

PearlClutzsche · 04/11/2023 08:09

Women's board shorts (or surf shorts) in a nice colour or pattern over plain cossie looks nice.

And I hate to suggest it, but Shein are great for two piece costumes that have shorts. I have one with a t-shirt shaped top, too. I often just use the shorts (made of swimsuit material) over my costume.

Dalhoussie · 04/11/2023 08:13

Board shorts like these
https://www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Board_Shorts_-with_Swim_Briefs/pp/P_40291.html

search board shorts for women. (I tried with men’s shorts but they’re too small in the bum). Wear with a tankini top.

Whilst seafancy looks like it has great choices, the reviews are crap for them on trust pilot so I'm going to avoid.

I'm surprised there aren't more options in the usual high street shops, aren't there lots of ladies that feel the same and don't want to have to "prepare" for swimming?!

I've ordered from SeaFancy and the suits are lovely. I think the main issue is if you get the wrong size and need to return.

So long as you measure yourself accurately and order the correct size then the actual suit/quality of the item is perfect.

But if you get it wrong you'll have to sell it on. And you also need to allow a couple of weeks for delivery.

SeasonalWitch · 04/11/2023 10:11

Regular swimsuit (with good structured boob support) and plain black shortish board shorts from Amazon over the top.

The thing I hate about tankinis and skirts is they just float around you once you’re in the water, covering nothing, and they inflate in the jacuzzi!

I've had several tankinis and none of them have ever floated around or not covered me. They are all the same style - look like a costume but separate and easier to go to the loo.

I've just ordered from Simply Be due to this thread - I've been bothered by beachwear for years - and you're right about the shaving - I hate having to bother about it when I just want a quick swim. I'm going for this one:
MAGISCULPT Flatter Me Swimdress | Simply Be

Just reporting back as this swim dress arrived and fits great just like in the picture. It compliments curves beautifully and is very very comfy. It's also got a cheeky sheer black under body which is cute.

I'll feel so much more confident on the beach now - can't wait!
