Swimwear for us hairy ladies!

EmmaDilemma5 · 03/11/2023 17:08

I've hit a point in my life where I just don't have the time or the will to remove excess pubic hair before swimming (or at all generally!). I have dark hair and genetics means I'm fairly hairy, my pubic hair grows at least an inch down from the swimwear line so if I don't shave - it's obvious. To me anyway. I do trim from time to time, but its still visible unless I shave or wax etc which I'm trying to avoid and I'd just love to go swimming and not have to worry at all about what state I'm in!

Does anyone have any recommendations for swimwear that will cover my upper legs/pelvic area and not look too naff? I'm thinking along the lines of boyshort style bottoms but in a suit rather than bikini (my tummy is also shot since kids).

Thanks!

Shorts

Try these

And Lands End are good for tankini tops

Bunty1958 · 03/11/2023 19:45

Bon Marche do a nice range of swimdresses

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 03/11/2023 19:56

I've just ordered from Simply Be due to this thread - I've been bothered by beachwear for years - and you're right about the shaving - I hate having to bother about it when I just want a quick swim. I'm going for this one:
MAGISCULPT Flatter Me Swimdress | Simply Be

MAGISCULPT Flatter Me Swimdress | Simply Be

This flattering fit and flare swimdress will shape and sculpt your silhouette this season with a classic leg shaping, Rouleau straps for support and inner mould pad cups for a smoothing shape. Complete with Firm control technology and 360 fully lined...

Completely unrelated but imagine blokes having to discuss this issue!

I'm with you OP and found a bikini short combo at H&M for the same reason as you. It was black but I just searched and they have this.

I know many people hate it for good reasons but I got several from Shein. The quality and fit are great. This was after trying a couple from Decathlon. There are similar suits on Amazon but Shein was cheaper.

So many options

Swim leggings, I bought mine from Primark, they’re great
Tankini and shorts - from Simply Be and Land’s End

I am hairy too. I used to buy swimshorts from yours clothing. Look fine with costume over the top. Less personal grooming

HumanSoapbox · 03/11/2023 20:37

My suit comes from Sports Direct. The lower part (attached) is like I'm wearing little shorts. I don't shave anything but my legs (and my undercut) and also just don't want people seeing so much of me. I was wearing a rash vest with various swim shorts or a pair of short leggings that don't go see through when wet. But the suit is ok.

OMGitsnotgood · 03/11/2023 20:55

I love tankinis, lots of them seem to come with shorts bottoms - which I don't like but would suit your needs.

As an aside, I have recently rediscovered Veet hair removal cream, and it seems to stem the growth longer than shaving. And the smell isn't as bad as it used to be.

porridgeisbae · 03/11/2023 21:04

I never liked bikinis.

If I have to do something water related I wear a one piece and then some swim legging things over it.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 03/11/2023 21:06

I wore swim shorts with a rash top for the first time this summer and found it an absolute revelation.

Honeymelt · 03/11/2023 21:10

Decathlon and if you live near you may be able to try on!

Seasidetrains · 03/11/2023 21:24

i have one from asda, it looks like they don't sell it anymore but it's a bit like this.

Short leggings and sports top plus t-shirt if you don't fancy flashing your pits.

Otherwise rest assured no one will notice, or even look. Or care.

Like you, OP, I'm past worrying about the painful faff of removing hair, though I do trim most of it.

I'd considered TeaGinandFags' suggestion but then decided against it.

I will wear my normal, comfy swimwear and not give a jot. As TeaGinandFags says (love that name btw), no one will notice. Or look. Or care.

If you're still hell-bent on wearing something to cover up a swim dress may be better. Shorts-type swimwear (and underwear) needs careful choosing or it will gather into the crease at the top of your thigh and you will spend most of your time trying to get it out. I thought it was just me as I have chubby thighs but all but my skinniest of friends have the same problem.

Out of interest, during a gin, tea and fag fuelled chat some time ago, we all discovered we're already at the don't give a crap stage. We all have hairy or hairy-ish partners and none of them remove their hair (apart from beards and some trim pubes).

Life's too short to worry about a bit of five o'clock pubic shadow.

I find keeping body hair to a minimum easy enough, couple of times a week.while in shower and if need to do a quick trim then gel, shave, wipe and go! A battery trimmer does the same job, few seconds, done. Cba having to find different swim wear. I'm in my 50s so far from a baywatch model, jist find regular maintenance works for me. If I was single it would be a different story lol, let them grow! X

BluebellsRoses · 03/11/2023 21:27

I'm completely with you on not wanting hair admin for swimming. Just to mention, if you get a very short shorty style they can ride up, which is uncomfortable and defeats the object.

I personally want more than a skirt, as I don't want people swimming lengths behind me to see anything. Shorts or leggings are ideal.

slopsan · 03/11/2023 21:29

Go in the speedo website and look at their women modest swim range.

Thanks but I'm not after pibic maintenance advise, it's just not something I'm interested in.

I'm going to assume (rightly or wrongly) that you're not as hairy as me. I've shaved plenty of times and it's horrible, within 24 hours it's stubbly and I'm left with hair all over the shower to clean away, hair clogged in my razor and quite frankly, I just don't want to spend 5-10 mins shaving and contorting in all positions in the shower. 10 years ago, maybe, but I am just not wanting that now.

Is much rather slip a pair of swim trucks on and away I go.
