How would Matt Hancock have decided who lives and who dies?

What factors would have been taken into consideration?

Age? Comorbidities? Childless?

It's utterly sickening and chilling to know what this despicable monster wanted to do.

I doubt that they'd have that clear an idea. Probably just have a sticker sheet and mark people with a red dot if it was their time.

So just randomly deciding who lives and who dies?

Let people catch it, see if they survive.

Karmakamelion · 02/11/2023 21:34

Probably ended meeni maini mo. The moron has no medical knowledge and very few morals

ReturnOfTheRainMac · 02/11/2023 21:35

Like you even need to ask. It would be their bank balance, class status and d are they a Tory donor. They don't care about anyone else.

Iam4eels · 02/11/2023 21:35

Elderly people followed by the disabled then those with long-term medical conditions then the unemployed, basically all those the Conservatives consider to be undesirables and therefore less worthy of basic rights.

noblegiraffe · 02/11/2023 21:36

Shag marry kill.

Iam4eels · 02/11/2023 21:36

You only need to look at the fact that blanket DNRs were applied to the records of otherwise healthy disabled people during the pandemic without prior discussion or agreement.

This was my first thought

A childless, obese 50 year old woman would have had no chance against a slim 30 year old mother.

The elderly, disabled, obese, childless, those with conditions such as diabetes and coronary disease would have been on the hit list. Not to mention those who were already terminally ill.

carltonscroop · 02/11/2023 21:39

I don't think he wanted to do it in the sense he was keen to do it.

Rather that he preferred centralised control.

I cannot fathom why he thought it should be him, not clinicians on the spot who made the decisions about who got the next bed, and at what stage you withdrew ICU treatment (if the patient wasn't dead or better fast enough).

Political top cover to support reverse triage (treat the most salvageable first) would have been useful. Thinking a politician should clinicians' authority (three wise men and all that) is yet another of the many misjudgements

Or maybe he just wanted to bump off Boris during his ICU stint.

Actually Covid-induced brain "fog" (a euphemism for "damage") might explain a lot

ssd · 02/11/2023 21:40

Probably depends who'd pay him the most

Queucumber · 02/11/2023 21:40

I read about that earlier. It should be shocking but if you’ve followed the news over the past few years it’s not even vaguely surprising. I saw it and thought, yes, he would think that.

By playing cricket it seems. It you caught the ball, you got to stay alive

MiddleagedBeachbum · 02/11/2023 21:43

Can anyone link me to a summary / over view of what you’re talking about please? 🙏🏽

It's terrible, but I laughed when I read this.

But the awful truth is, is true - that's exactly how MH would decide who lived/died.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I think Hancock is being very unfairly treated over this particular thing (I think her probably deserves to be totally lambasted over other things, mind).

From the way it’s being reported you’d think that he was sat in a high-winged chair, stroking a white cat and laughing maniacally whilst saying ‘I shall choose who lives and who dies!!!’

But surely he was saying ‘If the NHS is overwhelmed, I as the Secretary of State should be the one responsible for setting out the national policy on who gets treatment, as opposed to leaving those awful decisions in the hands of individual doctors to make on a case by case basis with no guidance to fall back on’. This is, surely, what leadership looks like and what we’d want a SOS to do? Clearly I’d expect him not to ignore medical advice when coming up with the guidance.

With a lot of Covid stuff I think that the government was absolutely shit (especially in 2020, not 2021 so much). But sometimes I think that they’re blamed for the virus itself. Hancock here is definitely damned either way. I can imagine him being panned as a shirker had he not said that ultimate responsibility rested with him. ‘Too much pressure on doctors’ etc etc.

Probably, in the case of women anyway.

Poor people die.

Don't want to derail the thread but the other day DH was skimming through instagram reels and came across a video of him being interrogated on some sas programme in his underwear. DH isn't from this country and he found it quite shocking how someone who worked and held a high title in a gov office of the UK can disrespect themself and the position he has worked in previously just for entertainment purposes and no wonder their are struggles in this county as the gov is full of people who don't respect take their duty seriously.

No doubt using his extensive medical knowledge and utterly twattish, Tory, middle class male arrogance.
