This is nothing to worry about is it

Sorry to ask but DH is worried and thinks I need to see a doctor today, I disagree and think I’m fine and at most could call a GP tomorrow. But of course now he’s got me worried!

Yesterday evening I suddenly felt extremely nauseous and had to lie down, DH said I looked ‘green’. Within about 30 minutes I was vomiting and continued to vomit for most of the evening (from around 5-10). I managed to sleep fairly well and after a couple more bouts this morning have stopped 🤞 being sick. I haven’t faced any food yet but have kept liquids down and don’t feel nauseous anymore. During this afternoon, around 2, I started to get quite intense pain in my back. The pain is just at the bottom of my rib cage and on both sides. It is very uncomfortable, I’ve had a hot water bottle on it and taken some paracetamol but it’s still very bothersome.

DH thinks this could suggest a kidney issue. I think it could be dehydration from the vomiting or possibly I’ve strained my back from vomiting and lying on the sofa.

I’m right aren’t I?! This doesn’t need medical help today

I think your right but no harm calling doctors in morning if symptoms not improved

Butterbeen · 02/11/2023 19:47

111 will tell you

I am in no way medically qualified, but it sounds like the muscle strain you get from being sick.

If you're in a lot of pain that isn't responding to painkillers then probably best to at least call 111 for advice.

I think you should ring NHS 111 OP.
The fact that you're in pain after the vomiting is over is worrying.
Hope you're OK.

OurfriendsintheNE · 02/11/2023 19:52

I’d call 111 to check what they advise. But if you get at all feverish get to A&E in case it is a kidney infection.

tootrueblue · 02/11/2023 19:53

I think you're right op, and probably a bit of muscle pain from repeated vomiting. Reassess the situation in the morning after a (hopefully) good sleep.

TheLittleWhitePill · 02/11/2023 19:54

There are several other things to consider. Are you passing urine? If so, is it pale straw colour or dark and smelly? Are you passing a lot or a little?

Do you take medication that can be toxic to the kidneys if you are dehydrated, e.g. ibuprofen, metformin, certain blood pressure tablets, diuretics?

Is the pain where your kidneys are located or somewhere else?

Basically, call 111 and get proper advice - and keep drinking water!

Thanks for your replies. I’ve done the online 111 system and it says seek help today or tomorrow so I will wait until the morning and if no better then will certainly contact my GP.
