Oh God it gave me the chills hearing John's voice in a new song.

I wouldn't even describe myself as a particular Beatles fan, but it brought a tear to my eye.

Paul has had a remarkable solo career, but he and John together were touched by God. They were a miracle, the likes of which we will never see again.

I don’t think the Beatles would have reunited, but I think John and Paul would. They were on the cusp of doing so before John was killed.

Yes so sad

That video was so powerful and uplifting. I’m amazed they were able to do that with that song. Great for them to bow out on a happy note and to remind us that they started out as four ordinary boys. What a journey.

I really love the song. I absolutely love The Beatles from their highly skilled produced songs to the very simple melodies they could do it all

this is a beautiful simple song that I found very emotional

greengreengrass25 · 04/11/2023 21:32

On BBC 2 now. Video

Bedbynoon · 04/11/2023 21:38

Haven’t heard it but probably crap like the rest of their songs. Tinny and boring. It’s like you are not cool if you hate the Beatles so everyone is scared to admit it. (Runs away….)

Passepartoute · 04/11/2023 21:46

I've just been watching the programme about the BBC and the Beatles which finished with this. I found it incredibly poignant, and I think it was well worth making both the recording and the video.

greengreengrass25 · 04/11/2023 21:48

It was so moving

It's reignited my interest in the group

efeslight · 04/11/2023 21:51

I found it very moving and as a PP said, it made me want to go back and listen to their music again.

RocketIceLollie · 04/11/2023 21:54

With all hype build up I was expecting to be disappointed by it, but I've found myself humming the song yesterday and today.

Not their best song by a long way but just what the world needs at the moment. Some Beatles music to chill everyone out at the moment.

Hiddendoor · 04/11/2023 22:13

I cried the first time I heard it.

I wasn't expecting it to be so melancholic. And I never expected it to feel so important for there to be a final, last song. But it really does mean the end, no more new.

Didn't like the video but I think the song will stick with me.

Pixiedust49 · 04/11/2023 22:35

My parents loved The Beatles so remember listening to them growing up. Didn’t expect it but that song made me well up. Then I saw the video 😢

Your loss, @Bedbynoon . Maybe you should worry less about looking ‘cool’ and what other people think and just concentrate on what makes you happy.

DH listened to it and he s a massive fan. He didn't like it and said it was obvious why John Lennon didn't finish it.

I agree with your DH. I've always loved the Beatles but this was just...meh. It doesn't sound like a Beatles song at all (what album would people say it was from if they had to) - it sounds like what it is, a late 70s Lennon demo that he didn't bother finishing. Really very underwhelmed by it.

ALongHardWinter · 05/11/2023 00:20

I love it. And the video brought a lump to my throat.

User8646382 · 05/11/2023 00:41

That Carl Perkins story is so unbelievably moving.

It’s just awful what that man has had to live through for the past 43 years, with half the world blaming him for what happened to John and the other half saying it should have been him. I’m glad that people are starting to see the truth.

How odd. It's like replying to a thread called "What's Ohio like" by saying "never been there but I bet it's shit like the whole of America"

searchfortruth · 05/11/2023 09:05

It's boring,

Why everyone adores John Lennon baffles me. The man was abusive to women and should be relegated to history where he belongs.

Newkidintow · 05/11/2023 09:12

I think the video is very moving. The song is a bit thin but very haunting and meaningful. It’s very poignant. As a life long Beatles fan I am very moved.

Sorry, but if you’re referring to Yoko Ono, that statement is horseshit. And if you’re really searching for the truth, search deeper.

John Lennon was the abused in that relationship, not the abuser.

Oganesson118 · 05/11/2023 10:50

I haven't got around to listening yet. I was waiting for it all day on the radio the other day then someone bloody rang me right before it came on!

I don't think there's anything wrong with using someone's voice. It's like a tribute I guess. Someone mentioned Robin Williams family being precious about it but Yoko gave the tapes to Paul, presumably with the intention he did something with it. It's not the first time the Beatles have done this either, they released Free as a Bird and Real Love in the 90s. This one sounds better, with the technology being better now.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 05/11/2023 11:14

I think Lennon was deeply flawed but if we only listen to perfect people I guess I'll see you in the queue for Daniel O'Donnell tickets
