If you rely on your phone for everything

to pay for stuff, route finding, apps to call a taxi etc...

Do you always carry a spare battery pack with you, or would you always be close to a car anyway with a charger cable in it? Or your phone battery always lasts 24 hours+ no matter how intensively used the phone is.

Just wondering how people make sure the phone will always have enough charge in it, if you're super reliant on your phone. And if you carry a battery pack, how do you make sure that always has enough charge in it (and do you carry more than one spare cable in case cable goes faulty)

Do you have an iPhone? I could never understand how people could rely on their phones for more than a few minutes until I got an android phone.

Weird comment seeing as that they do identical jobs.

Not remotely weird. It's a well known issue with iPhones batteries not lasting as long as their android counterparts.

To answer your question OP, I have a cable in my car. And in my work bag.

If I'm going to be away from both I'll have a battery pack on me. Which if I use, I then put on charge when I get home. Easy.

Legomania · 02/11/2023 14:16

If my phone couldn't handle an evening out I would be looking to replace it. For days out I take the cable for use on train/in car

GirrlCrush · 02/11/2023 14:19

I'm in a job whereby we are forbidden to take our phones into the building and are searched daily. So I hardly use it in the daytime

I've recently bought a battery power pack for travelling as I don't bother getting new handsets due to lack of use!

Never run out of battery

DelurkingAJ · 02/11/2023 14:20

Charger in my handbag. Charge before a long journey. Battery lasts a couple of days. Never worried me at all.

Having had both Androids and IPhones I can tell you that the battery on an Android is far superior to the IPhone. My android phone is 3 years old and going strong. My kids have older androids still going strong. Good luck trying to get anything more than a few hours out of a 6 year old IPhone. Mine died after a year!

00100001 · 02/11/2023 14:26

battery will easily last the day. not often away from car/home/work where it is easily charged if needed.

However, If I'm out and about in a city visiting/Taking videos/somewhere with poor signal/using maps more etc -then I'll bring battery pack charger with me and the cable. It's part of my standard "day trip essentials" - along with drinks cup etc.

exexpat · 02/11/2023 14:26

My phone is an Android (currently Samsung, previously I have had a mix of Motorolas and Samsungs), and my battery always lasts long enough even if I am out all day and using it intensively. I have found it is only when androids get to three or four years old that battery performance declines. DD's iPhone is another matter...

Spirro · 02/11/2023 14:26

My battery lasts 14 hours, 8am-10pm. I can also charge it in the car if I need to. I don’t really need anything beyond that.

Kinsters · 02/11/2023 14:32

If I know I will need my phone and I'm running low on battery with no ability to charge it then I'll stick it on airplane mode to conserve power. I always have a charging cable in my car and tend to plug it in whenever I drive anywhere.

Finteq · 02/11/2023 14:36

My phone last over 30 hours. That's with heavy use during working hours- android phone.

Samsung A54.

Has a great battery life.

I didn't even understand what the question was about until I read some more posts.

I don't rely on my phone for everything but do use it for a lot of different day to day things such as banking, emails, contacting family, checking the weather (especially handy when it's very changeable as it is at the moment) etc.

Any time I go out and about I always make sure I have a charging cable and at least a 10000mAh power bank (which will charge most androids about 3-4 times) on me in my bag - I will usually get at least a full day's worth of use out of my phone on one full charge, however, you never know if you might end up being involved in a situation or accident which means that you don't have any way of charging it/contacting your next of kin/calling for help etc, so for peace of mind I always like to have a power bank with me.

Also I work in a hospital and so many people expect that we will have the correct charging cables lying about spare (we don't unfortunately!), I get that things happen unexpectedly but if you just keep one and the right charging cable on you wherever you go or have one in a little bag ready to grab as you leave home with the ambulance crew, that whole situation can be avoided.

WonderingAboutBabies · 02/11/2023 14:56

I don't use it for route finding or paying for things. I just use it for general texting and social media. Never take a charger/battery pack out. I just don't use it to the point where it'd go flat before I got home! (Android....)

Allfourwalls · 02/11/2023 15:19

Yes I have a portable battery pack that stays in my bag at all times. I'm a heavy phone user and also rely on public transport a lot so don't want to risk running out of charge! Its also for emergencyies like the time we had to rush DS to A&E and were there for hours. I actually used it the other day and need to charge it up again so thanks for the reminder!

maw29 · 02/11/2023 15:22

I have a power bank I take with me.

I don't have an iPad or another tablet so my phone is used for everything.

haki9k · 02/11/2023 15:33

I always bring a power bank with me. No car and generally out and about in public places so no access to a plug socket. I've carried power banks for about 10 years.

My phone is about 5 years old and only lasts half a day out. I don't use it for payments (I usually pay with DH's credit card and assume I couldn't add that to my phone). But I use Maps, calendar, camera, check email etc regularly.

AnathemaPulsifer · 02/11/2023 16:36

I always have a battery pack with me. My iPhone battery lasts ages but if I broke down or ended up at A&E I’d need to be able to charge up.

AnathemaPulsifer · 02/11/2023 16:37

And I charge the battery pack every time I’ve used it.

EngivitaOnToast · 02/11/2023 16:43

After my last ten year old smart phone finally dying I bought an oukitel. It has a fantastic battery so no more need for power packs etc. Downside it weighs the same as a house brick and is not that much smaller.

jippy2s · 02/11/2023 16:46

My iPhone lasts all day and evening. But have a cable in the car if I'm using for maps and music which drain it faster.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 02/11/2023 16:51

I always have a battery charger, two cables, and a plug-in usb charger in my handbag. My iPhone (12 pro max) fully charged, lasts from 6am to about 8pm with continual use (maps, photos, email, YouTube, audiobooks, music, etc). I have been very impressed with the battery life on the iPhone, but I like the security of the battery, which can do four phone charges quite easily.

Catacapa · 02/11/2023 16:56

Is this actually a problem in your life OP or is it a problem you think others have?

Even with a 3.5 year old phone, I never get below about 25% after an exceptionally heavy usage day. Normally it's more like 50%. If I forget to charge it and am in a bit of a bind, I turn off Wifi, mobile data and Bluetooth so it's not wasting energy searching for them but don't know how much difference that actually makes.

Universalsnail · 02/11/2023 16:58

I carry a battery pack if I am going to be out longer then 8 hours or so if I am relying on my phone to get me home

TheChosenTwo · 02/11/2023 17:09

I’ve got an iPhone which is a year old, lasts a day without charging fine. Use it constantly during my wfh day as I listen to podcasts and when I commute it’s in use for the same reasons.
Couldn’t be arsed also carrying round a charger and wire, I rarely take a bag anywhere with me.
