If you watch horror movies, what is one scene that you can think of that sticks out as being one of the scariest scenes you've watched?

I think it is interesting to see what is effective and what different people find scary.

For me it's the scene in hereditary where she's on the ceiling sawing her head off with chicken wire. Absolutely hated that imagery and felt so disturbed!

Sorry - I should've said. "Ils" means "Them" in French. It's this film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465203/

It's set in France but the dialogue is all (or mostly) in English

Them (2006) ⭐ 6.4 | Horror, Thriller

1h 17m | 15

I only watched Salem's Lot a few months ago, and I don't even remember the window scene. Maybe you need to see these things when you're a child or adolescent to be affected...

Wibblywobblylikejelly · 02/11/2023 13:24

The Green Inferno.

Great effects and massive well done to all involved!

BarborousBarbra · 02/11/2023 13:27

The nurse's station scene in Exorcist III has to be a contender. It's actually a pretty great film all around for creepiness.

I’m a massive horror fan in general but the one scene I really don’t like is the spider walk down the stairs in the Exorcist.

This is precisely the reason I haven’t seen a horror film since 1993.

Dawn17 · 02/11/2023 13:29

@KStockHERO thanks for the link. I'm just wondering how I can watch it, I have Prime and Netflix, but don't mind paying for it on another channel, do you know where its available? thanks

KStockHERO · 02/11/2023 13:31

I have no idea @Dawn17, sorry. I watched it years ago on the C4 app, I think. But that was several years back.

MaisyMary77 · 02/11/2023 13:32

The original Woman in Black movie. (1989) Arthur Kidd is in bed with a fever and the woman in black comes through the window towards him. I’ve seen the film dozens of times but I still have to hide behind a cushion with my ears blocked for that scene!

HallieRaspberry · 02/11/2023 13:32

That scene in Bone Tomahawk is the most horrific thing I have ever seen.

SirenSays · 02/11/2023 13:36

Lots of scenes stick with me but the thing that really freaks me out is when they do that crazed shaking head thing. They use it a lot in the '99 version of House on the Haunted Hill.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/11/2023 13:41

Not a horror but The Silence of the Lambs still scares me in parts. Despite having watched it over 20 times.

theysaiditgetseasier · 02/11/2023 13:45

@Coshofliving me to! I was terrified of a knife coming through my mattress

Also the bodies hanging in the sixth sense that freaked me out.

One that upset me was the last scene in The Kill Club, won't spoil it for those who've not seen it but stayed with me for a long time.

britespark1 · 02/11/2023 13:48

@Cozytoesandtoast00 it pops into my head whenever I go up a straight flight of stairs on my own

DoktorPeppa · 02/11/2023 13:48

The final scene of Carrie when the surviving girl dreams that she's laying flowers, Carrie's hand comes up through the ground and she wakes up, thrashing around

It's not the jump scare but the way the music changes and you know she's now going to be so fucked up because of what happened

GunpowderGuido · 02/11/2023 13:51

I will watch any scene from any horror at any time of day or night.

I will NOT watch even a minute of Watership Bloody Down - even in bright sunshine surrounded by a crowd of puppies. It ruined rabbits.

RamseyGordon · 02/11/2023 13:51

Not a movie but another one for me is in hill House when one of the brothers goes up to his apartment and sees Nell and she's at the other end of the room, then when he turns around she's right behind him and opens her mouth reallyyyyy wide and makes a horrible noise

There are lots of scenes in that show that scared me

I'm working alone and I'm a bit creeped out to go to the toilet now as the building half empty and no one on my floor 🤣

Yes this completely freaked me out!

Also the scene where Danny cycles around the corner and sees the twins in the Shining 😱

I don't really find them scarey (I am usually laughing), though Eden Lake was thought provoking - a couple in the wrong place at the wrong time kind of scenario. Some bloody awful kids. No monsters (well the kids were vile)

Yeah the bit at the end where she realises she’s in one of their homes! Nightmare!!

Yes. Also the scene where Theo and Shirley are arguing in the car and Nell appears in between them, screaming.

funbags3 · 02/11/2023 14:03

I was thirteen, and somehow managed to sneak into the cinema to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street. The scene where Dep was sucked into the bed scared the living daylights out of me.
I don't scare easily anymore as I've watched so many horror films.
The last time I felt creeped out was Blair Witch. It didn't so much as scare me but left a really uneasy feeling.

Spermscarecrow · 02/11/2023 14:03

SlippinJanie · 02/11/2023 12:16

The Haunting 1963 film "who's hand was I holding?" I shouldn't have watched that on my own a teenager. Never again.

Omg 😱 I can only watch that film with my DH . The bit for me was the door moving in and out . Bloody creepy .

SuitYouSir · 02/11/2023 14:03

Two scenes in The Grudge (US remake) - ghost with no jaw and little boy ghost who appears under the covers. Just no.

Oh yes, that final scene in Blair Witch where he's standing in the corner! Chilling.
