If you watch horror movies, what is one scene that you can think of that sticks out as being one of the scariest scenes you've watched?

I think it is interesting to see what is effective and what different people find scary.

For me it's the scene in hereditary where she's on the ceiling sawing her head off with chicken wire. Absolutely hated that imagery and felt so disturbed!

Just added Talk To Me to my list

Wrt the conjuring universe, do you have to watch them in order of release for it to make sense or are they standalone stories? They don't seem to all be available to stream free with the subscription services I have and I can't really spare £3.99 a pop to rent them

RamseyGordon · 02/11/2023 12:45

@FourStringsNoWaiting no i wouldn't say you have to watch the actual universe in order. I would watch conjuring 1 before 2 and Annabelle 1 before 2 etc but doesn't matter which order you watch all the different movies in the universe in

I don't watch horror films but I screamed in a cinema once, as did other audience members.

The film was Enduring Love, from ages ago. Stars Daniel Craig and Rhys Ifans.

There's a scene of sudden and shocking violence that's so brutal and unexpected I've never forgotten it.

Not a horror movie but;

The very last scene in the BBC docu-drama "Threads". Ruth's daughter gives birth in a post apocalyptic Britain in the early 80's. The baby is hideously deformed due to radiation poisoning and she just screams. It has always haunted me.

I was going to say this too

Or basically any of Watership Down. Fucking terrifying and traumatising.

i don't like blood and guts and gore but prefer chills and suspense

This scene from The Innocents has always unnerved me with the ghost of the malevelent Quint appearing...

The Innocents (1961) - Scariest scene

The 1961 film version of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw" was entitled "The Innocents" and stars Deborah Kerr. Here Miss Giddens, a governess to two orph...

I’m not a massive horror fan so mine are quite tame compared to others probably.

I found the suspense that was built up in Paranormal Activity scary.

Also the final scene in Behind Her Eyes when she looks back at the little boy in the car - my god that terrified me 😂😂

BarborousBarbra · 02/11/2023 12:52

Is this the film where the creature comes face to face with a girl who pleads for her life saying " I won't tell anyone," or words to that effect and said creature repeats her words back to her in the creepiest voice ever? I've been trying to work out where that scene came from for ages. So disturbing!

For those of you saying Eden Lake... Please watch 'Ils', its the same kind of vibe but a million times better

CherryBlossom321 · 02/11/2023 12:58

The Conjuring ll, where the Warren’s daughter is standing in the hallway and asks her mum in a shaky voice, “Who is that?” and the nun is standing at the end of the hall. Plus the following few minutes where Lorraine follows after her.

Omg yes same! It's the sound effect it makes as the camera shows the num just standing there at the end of the hallway. That's my favourite scene in the movie. Sooo creepy

The Exorcist where the girl crawls backwards down the stairs and Salems Lot where Danny is at the window knocking to come in

Parakeetamol · 02/11/2023 13:06

"there's a dog in the woods" from watership down. I mean tbh the entire film is harrowing

Wondering17 · 02/11/2023 13:07

It might be tame - but the scene in the gym in the original Carrie film with Sissy Spacek where having had the blood poured on her she causes mayhem just by looking at things.

NotSuchASmugMarried · 02/11/2023 13:09

I saw the exorcist recently and they seem to have cut the spider walk from the film. It was horrifically creepy maybe that's why

There are a few different cuts of the film. I'm not sure which has the spider walk as I haven't watched it in ages.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 02/11/2023 13:16

It’s not scary but it’s one I physically can’t bear to watch - the scenes in Les Revenants where Simon strips skin off his own body and eats it.

Yes! This film is scarier than any horror movie. Also the part where she leaves the cellar to look for her dp and comes back to find all the flies in the cellar where her mum, dad and grandma are and have obviously been killed

Dawn17 · 02/11/2023 13:18

What's "lls" is it short for something? I can't find it!

Whapples · 02/11/2023 13:18

Not a movie but there’s an episode of criminal minds where the guy is dislocating people to try and make them into the perfect human marionette doll. Absolutely scares the shit out of me. Especially the scene where he has the girl on stage and she’s all floppy. I can dislocate my joints and i feel like I can feel her joint pain, makes me shiver and I skip the whole episodes on rewatches!

It's French. Search for Them and you should find it.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 02/11/2023 13:19

I clearly have a problem with skinning and the like because I also can’t cope with the skin peeling scene in Black Swan and I was watching Hannibal with my DP recently and there was a scene that showed skin - could have been human or animal, you couldn’t tell -being peeled away from flesh and I had to hide my face.

For me the film “The Entity”!

Couldn't pick any particular scene as I just found the whole film terrifying.

Would highly recommend to anyone who loves horror and hasn’t seen it.
