Strong smelling reasonably priced candles

I love scented candles but I've bought a few cheapo ones recently and they don't smell at all.

Any recommendations?

Whenever I see a post asking for candle recommendations, I always link to here:

Paddywax are soy and are lovely, particularly the ones in concrete pots. Can be got cheaper occasionally on Amazon too.

Thingamebobwotsit · 02/11/2023 11:42

So I have started buying wax melts again, last longer and more cost effective especially if you buy from Etsy suppliers.

St Eval & TKMaxx have linked up to do a range - the fig one is lush

BarborousBarbra · 02/11/2023 11:49

I agree with the Home Bargains ones. I'm a bit of a candle junkie and have a lot of expensive ones and can be a bit snobby, but their gingerbread one is lovely and fills the whole house. My dad even thought I'd been baking when he came over last time I had it lit!

Sandalholidays12 · 02/11/2023 17:52

@BarborousBarbra ooo I'm guna give the Ginger one a try next time I'm in Home Bargains.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2023 17:56

Wickford and co. Amazing smell. Last ans good price

Snorklette · 02/11/2023 17:58

Watching with interest! I am a recent candle fanatic. My friend (a candle expert) says Sand & Fog are the best (& her house smells amazing). I love Aldi ones, but the last couple of times I’ve popped in, they’ve literally had about six candles left.. all of which smelled of a week old cabbage. Is there a candle shortage?!

BarborousBarbra · 02/11/2023 17:58

@Sandalholidays12 Just steer clear of the fruitier scents (probably not in stock this time of year anyway) because they definitely smell much cheaper/chemically than the spicy ones. Still fine the price I suppose!

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/11/2023 17:59

Bath & Body Works are the absolute best - often have deals too. On the Next website.

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/11/2023 18:00

Also North Muse - often in TK Maxx - last for ages and reasonably priced. Also have crystals in them too. So pretty.

Another vote for the Sand & Fog ones in TkMaxx, I particularly like the blackberry one

Chickpea17 · 02/11/2023 18:17

WoodWick are amazing and get them cheap from Homesense.

BertieBotts · 02/11/2023 18:19

If you have an Ikea near you, we tend to find their candles good.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/11/2023 18:52

For Christmas I always like the M&S Mandarin, Clove and Cinnamon candles.

Hi! I know exactly what you mean; I’ve had the same issue with a few cheaper brands. I’ve found that investing a bit more in good quality candles makes a huge difference. Recently, I discovered a fantastic brand that I’m obsessed with: HomeBlissBoutique. Their scents are really rich and long-lasting, and they have such a lovely variety. I’ve been burning their Lime, Basil & Mandarin Scented Soy Wax Candle and it fills the whole room with a beautiful aroma. You can check them out here: homeblissboutique/shop/

St Eval are my favourite. Their tea lights smell wonderful and last all evening.

these.

Just go to T K Maxx. They have loads (in ours anyway) reasonably priced.

Would you consider a wax melt burner? The electric ones are amazing, I always find wax melts to smell a lot stronger

I second this.
I bought Yankee Candle wax melt ( for fraction price of the large candle jar)and it smells exactly like the candle, same strength plus- it will last ages, mine is probably 5-6 months old and still going strong.

IamOliveOil · 29/06/2024 20:48

Depending on what you call reasonably priced I have discovered Charles Farris tin candles they are £25 but they are very strong smelling and worth it for the money IMO. My whole downstairs and upstairs landing is filled with beautiful aromas when lit.

Sageyboots · 29/06/2024 20:50

Would second paddywax candles
i find wax melts better as well. The smell is stronger and almost instant (and you don’t need to worry about burning for hours to prevent your camdle tunnelling)
