Storm- are your schools closed tomorrow??

Sitting here listening to the rain and wind. I'm wondering about whether the school will be closed tomorrow. I'm in West Sussex so it's supposed to hit us quite hard.
Dd1s college has already said they are closed tomorrow but dd2s school will let us know by 6am tomorrow. Which seems a bit late for those needing childcare.
Are you expecting your school to be open tomorrow?

Ours confirmed closed at lunchtime - all schools in the area are the same, the LA told them to close.

IhearyouClemFandango · 01/11/2023 22:32

Yes, confirmed this eve. Isle of Wight.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/11/2023 22:33

We're on the edge of the Amber zone; schools have said they'll make a decision in the morning.
Schools across the border in the Amber zone have been told to close by the LEA.

Mine are on half term still, but a teenager I know just told me her college is closing tomorrow.

GreenMarigold · 01/11/2023 22:36

In West Sussex, no communication from school. I’m led to believe they will announce first thing if it is closed.

SleepyMathematician · 01/11/2023 22:40

West Sussex, just over the Hampshire border. Hampshire schools seem to be mostly closed but the West Sussex website is full of advice to stay at home - as long as you’re not a school child or a teacher as the schools all seem to be currently open tomorrow. Maybe they’ll make a decision in the morning but it seems a bit late especially as a few teachers I know have to leave for work quite early in the morning.

ReadyForPumpkins · 01/11/2023 22:41

I’m in Hampshire and all the local schools (near Southampton) are closed.

edwinbear · 01/11/2023 22:42

We’re in London and expecting school to be open as usual - there’s been no suggestion otherwise, but think it won’t be so bad here.

SleepyMathematician · 01/11/2023 22:44

As far as I can make out, West Sussex schools have been told not to close unless the warning is upgraded to red. Yet Hampshire are closing on Amber, which we are on too. You’d think there’d be national consistency on these things.

EasternStandard · 01/11/2023 22:44

No, still open, in London

Stressedgiraffe · 01/11/2023 22:44

We live in a small village and rely on the bus to get to school. Lots of lanes and loads of trees so if anything falls over/ blocks the roads the decision will be taken out of our hands even if the school opens.

My situation also.

Starlightstarbright2 · 01/11/2023 22:48

I am in East Midlands and was badly hit by storms last week ..

we are on half term but once everywhere started flooding really difficult to get Ds home as it’s a bus route buses were closing .

if it’s really bad I wouldn’t risk it .

Singleandproud · 01/11/2023 22:48

I work for the Environment Agency, everyone apart from essential incident response staff have been told to work from home in my area. If that's what we have been told I'll be applying the same to DD if it's as bad as expected in the morning

Nonamenoplacetogo · 01/11/2023 23:12

All schools in Devon closed

DelurkingAJ · 01/11/2023 23:14

We’re in West Sussex. Our (always good at communicating) school has messaged to say they’re open tomorrow unless things get significantly worse.

ChristmasAlmostComplete23 · 01/11/2023 23:25

Yes hampshire

terriblyangryattimes · 01/11/2023 23:29

W Sussex. School close to the beach but it's open unless we go to red from the current Amber.

Goldenbear · 01/11/2023 23:33

Brighton - yes so far however taking 'dynamic risk assessments' so things may change by morning.

Its5656 · 01/11/2023 23:36

Hastings- I was informed this afternoon that the college is closed tomorrow. It sounds awful outside atm and this rain and flood water need to do one.

BettyBakesCakes · 01/11/2023 23:36

East Anglia here. Some schools are closed, I know several were caught out by flooding in storm babet and I think it's more concern about the levels of rain than the wind.

LoveBluey · 01/11/2023 23:37

Hampshire and yes closed as are all the local schools.
So far nursery (private) still opening but we'll see in the morning.

Ditto

But the secondary schools in the Crawley area are all (? nearly all?) closed, reasons include “because a lot of staff have to travel up from the coast”. But don’t worry about us actually at the coast…

(Not that I want school to be shut actually)

Nonamenoplacetogo · 01/11/2023 23:12

All schools in Devon closed

No they are not - my dc school is still saying it’s going to be open, as are the other primaries around us in Devon, but to be reviewed tomorrow

"But the secondary schools in the Crawley area are all (? nearly all?) closed"

Ours isn't!!! They have a bit of a rep for bad communication, but the updates are coming thick and fast tonight. Now we wait to see what the morning brings!
