Starting new job on Monday but haven’t heard anything?

Hi all,

I am due to start a new job on Monday. Hired via an agency and no direct contact with new company other than interviews.

Signed a contract and due to start on Monday but I’ve not heard anything about when I’m meant to turn up, who I should ask for, email details etc. Is this normal?

There was a third party company carrying out background checks including DBS but I’ve not heard from them either. I am assuming all the references have been okay.

I am going to speak to the hiring company tomorrow afternoon but hoping to hear about other MNetters experience with this kind of thing.

Thanks!

My current (new) job was like this - new manager rang on the Friday to check all ready for the Monday and IT stuff was delivered to my house on the Thursday. Tbh had my manager not rang I'd of been a bit panicked as to where to go and what to do as only had an email from HR giving me a name and time. Maybe you're working for the same company as me?

Has your DBS cert come through? It comes to you.

@g0at A relief to hear other companies leave things to the last minute as well! I’ve not even heard a peep from their HR department - everything has been via the agency. It’s a news/journalism organisation if that matches your industry!

@FFSWhatToDoNow Thanks for letting me know that, no nothing in the post. That being said I get a Royal Mail delivery once a week if I’m lucky these days. I think the DBS is more of a formality than a requirement for this role. I’m not working with any vulnerable groups or individuals.

They can’t DBS you without good reason. It’s covered by law.

My last job was like this. Totally chaotic. In retrospect I should have seen the warning signs and never taken it. The place was shambolic.

@FFSWhatToDoNow How odd, it’s a political journalism role. Can’t really see why they would need a DBS for that. I’ve worked in similar roles without one.

@GMH1974 Oh no! I really hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I know this place used to have a reputation for being a bit chaotic but I’d heard things had changed….
