If you heard that your boss had plans of an expanded role for you, would you assume that ment more money?

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this. I'm on mat leave at the min but due back in 3 weeks. I'd love some extra responsibility but only if I'm getting paid for it

I would assume they will try to pass it off as a 'development opportunity' to avoid giving more money so you need to be prepared to fight for an additional responsibility allowance to be added for the period that you are doing the expanded role.

Ideally yes as presumably you now have a wider remit and/or more responsibility. But I expect many organisations would badge it as a development opportunity instead. Also would depend on just how materially different it is, and whether you're currently working at capacity and fully in line with your role profile.

Currently, although I'm off atm, I'm snowed under. I literally couldn't take on any extra so I'll be incredibly cheesed off if they are 'trying to do me a good turn' I have young family and want to be paid more if they are gonna
Expand my role. I don't know whether to be excited or annoyed at this point. I'm
Due a meeting with my employer on Monday so I'll probably hear more then.

I'd presume it means your mat leave cover is keeping your old job and they are trying to style it like a good thing for you. But hopefully I'm overly cynical.
