School trousers for tall 15 year old

tulippa · 01/11/2023 18:07

After some advice please. DS is 15, 6 foot 1 and all leg. I bought him age 16-17 school trousers for September and they were on the short side on the first day of term. He's managed until half term but I need to get him some that fit properly.
Does anyone have any tips for good places to get longer school trousers? He needs ordinary black ones. Thanks

M&S do longer length - definitely try there. I get them for my 6ft 1 15 year old.

ilovetea14 · 01/11/2023 18:12

@Talipesmum I was going to say M&S too. My ds is 12 and half and 5ft 11 and I found the 16-17 very long ended up getting 15-16 and still good length and washing really well.

Have you tried a uniform supplier rather than just the supermarkets? I had the same issue with my DD. David Luke, Trutex and Banner do longer leg lengths. Or you could get men's trousers in a long leg.
I've ordered from here before.

The M&S extra long ones are really good. There is even some hem that can be let down. They are a 34" inside leg in extra long from age 14 up, the long is 32

Topofthemountain · 01/11/2023 18:16

The difficulty I had with DD was to get the leg length to be right the waist was too large. Trousers were either half way up her legs or in a pile at her ankles. Being able to get different waist and leg length was a game changer.

tulippa · 01/11/2023 18:17

Are the M and S long ones only available in store? Just had a look online and can only find regular length.

My tall 14 year old grandson has really nice black trousers for school from Matalan. Forget school trousers and look in the men’s section. Plain black trousers that come in different leg lengths. They wash really well and barely need ironed

That's the kind of site I was wondering about - I'll check it out. Thanks

Does he have a small waist too? If so he needs mens trousers in S or XS- he can try all the lengths to see what fits. Almost all the high street brands that target young people are good for this body type.

If his waist is large then M&S and Burton are okay.

tulippa · 01/11/2023 18:24

He's a small men's waist. Have come to the realisation that the days of cheap school trousers are gone.

HappiDaze · 01/11/2023 18:25

I bought really long ones for DS who's waist was 28/29 inches

HappiDaze · 01/11/2023 18:26

Boys ones from M&S I should add age 16/17 or 17/18

Oh forgot about Matalan. Think I'll have to drag DS to the shops to try stuff on. He hates that - especially for school stuff! Grin

I gave up on the high street trousers when my DS got to that height.
School shop were able to provide 38" inside leg. He shot up to 6ft 4" and they were still ok.

CapitaineBelkacem · 01/11/2023 18:27

Try John Lewis - if you read the size guide for boys' longer length trousers, they're longer than M&S. This is a tip I read on a similar thread ages ago! And found to be true.

mumonthehill · 01/11/2023 18:28

Next also do long, we need 34 leg at a minimum and have managed to get school trousers for ds last couple of years.

MidnightOnceMore · 01/11/2023 18:30

M&S Men's slim fit, long length.

Defaultsettings · 01/11/2023 18:31

Poor lad. He’s an adult size so stop buying children’s clothes for him. Men’s trousers are sizes by waist and inside leg measurement. Please don’t force him to wear school trousers that don’t fit.

Another one saying m and s, I ordered the long fit online. Work well for a tall, slim boy

wishiwasidisneyland · 01/11/2023 18:47

I bought direct from David Luke for my very tall DS. M&S etc were all too short.

No, they’re sold online. You can filter by longer length etc. But I did see that age 15 in black are sold out in longer length.
Here’s a link to the grey ones - and you can put an alert to come through when they restock in the black.

Don't worry - that's the whole point of the thread. 🙂

Another vote for Matalan actual men's trousers. They've usually got lots of black trousers and the waist and length sizes are much better than going by age like you do for school trousers.
