Help! How much notice do I need to give?

I’m 3.5 months into a 6 month probation at work. I really dislike the job (for reasons I won’t bore you with) and don’t want to go back. My GP has signed me off work for the next week as I’ve got covid.

I want to send my fit note in and hand in my notice at the same time. How much notice, if any, do I need to give.

Please see relevant section of my contract below. Does it work both ways? They can terminate my employment at anytime, can I?

The first 6 months of the Employment shall be a probationary period and the Employment may be terminated during this period at any time or at the end of the probationary period on 1 week's prior written notice or payment in lieu of notice.

Works both ways unless specified.

Give 1 week.

Hope you feel better soon.

1 week if it’s inside a probation period.

I’ve just done the same thing.

Bitch about the job, it might make you feel better.

Thank you. So my signed off week can be my notice period?

Yes it can, lots of people get signed off sick when working notice.

Yes, as long as you’re giving a full weeks notice

There’s a myriad of reasons as to why I can’t work there anymore. I guess the main one being that I’ve not been paid correctly since I started. Managers seemingly try to help but ultimately head office do nothing. One thing in the following pay gets corrected but then there’s another mistake.

Everyone and I mean everyone who I have spoken to since I started has said you have to keep an eye on it each month.

To be honest, amongst all the other things, I find it demoralising, that I’m sat at work doing my job to the best of my ability, not knowing whether or not I’ll get paid for it at the end of the month.

Have you got a plan in place for when you finish? Do you need another job to go to?

Mampam2 · 01/11/2023 16:43

Thanks all for your help

Yes I will need to get another job but anything will be better than where I currently am!
