4yo has been saying her eyes are hurting?

DD nearly 4 has said for a couple of days that her eyes are hurting; I can’t really get much information out of her but she seems to notice it when she’s sat quietly reading or watching something. She starts clenching her eyes shut and saying they’re hurting her and tries to touch them/rub them.

I can’t see anything in her eyes and they don’t look red/watery/discharge ect they look absolutely fine. I thought maybe headache but the way she’s touching her eyes makes me think she’s feeling irritation.. like she not pressing on her eyes like you would when you have a headache behind your eyes. She’s touching them as if they’re something in them or irritating her waterline maybe?

has anyone experienced heard of similar. Her eyes look healthy so I’m not sure if it’s something worth going to the GP for or not?

Is it worth getting her eyesight tested? Especially if it happens whilst reading etc. When my prescription changes it can feel like my eyes hurt and she might be rubbing them as she's not really sure why they're sore.

Take her to the opticians, not the GP. Perhaps she needs specs.

She might need glasses

Sounds like she needs a trip to the opticians for an eye test

Doesn't need a GP appointment if she's otherwise well

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/11/2023 13:27

I get her an appointment with your optician. When were her eyes last checked?

cestlavielife · 01/11/2023 13:28

Opticians today

Burning/itching/uncomfortable eyes is a reported symptom of the newer variants of COVID.

Chouette77 · 01/11/2023 13:32

Yes was going to say Covid, it's a new common symptom

Bananaaa · 01/11/2023 13:35

Is she well? When my 4 year old got Covid a couple of years ago he kept saying his eyes were hurting before he got other symptoms

Itjustgoesonandon · 01/11/2023 13:42

Have you done a covid test? This was the only symptom my two young dc had last time they had it, no other cold type symptoms at all.

DRS1970 · 01/11/2023 13:48

Sounds similar to my granddaughter when it turned out she needed reading glasses. She didn't have the vocabulary sufficient to describe the discomfort she was feeling
