Has anyone tried this med for the above issues?

Did it help at all?

I am at the end of my rope with my life long mental health issues and am desperate for some let off from it all.

My psychiatrist has prescribed this and I am already panicking about adverse side effects etc 🙄

I have taken it for those reasons for a very long time. I couldn’t live without it. I will say in the first couple of weeks I felt very anxious and weird.

rowanrome · 01/11/2023 11:12

I used to take it a long time ago for ocd , depression and anxiety and it quite literally gave me my life back. Unfortunately it stopped working for me after about four years but when it did it was amazing.

Yes. Transformed my life. I can’t believe I spent so long feeling that way. I feel free.

DustyMaiden the thought of the initial side effects is literally bringing me out in panic just thinking about it but I know I’ll have to push through that. Good to hear it worked well for you, that’s encouraging.
rowanrome sorry to hear it stopped helping you, did you manage to find anything which helped.
peachgreen wow! I would love to feel free, I have felt so trapped by this for decades, I do t even know what it feels like to feel ‘normal’ anymore.

I wouldn't have been able to properly engage in ERP and finally beat my OCD without it.

The first week or two will probably be a little uncomfortable until you settle and get used to it, but it is very much worth sticking with it.

Flowersinthewateringcan · 01/11/2023 14:38

Thanks aletterfromseneca, I’m waiting to see a psychologist and am hoping the combination of meds and therapy might help. Tried various therapies on their own and I’m still struggling so fingers crossed. Good to hear they’ve helped you, I’ll just need to plough through the first few weeks on them.

I started with 20mg for anxiety and depression and had very minimal side effects (just a dry mouth and feeling a little spaced out). I felt an improvement in my mood within 2 days (which was a shock and quite incredible!!). I had been expecting nasty side effects but it wasn't the case at all. So try not to worry. I hope it helps you like I did me.

BHRK · 01/11/2023 14:44

Not this combination but sertraline. Life changing!

Flowersinthewateringcan · 01/11/2023 14:50

That’s really encouraging HundredMilesAnHour, thanks.

BHRK my sister is on Sertraline, she too says it’s helped her immensely.

Started on 20mg and am now on 40mg. At the start, I felt spaced out, but now only feel that way for a little while when I get up in the morning. Can't say it does much for my OCD but it's been an absolute godsend for my anxiety.

Flowersinthewateringcan · 01/11/2023 16:39

Thanks slavetothekittens I’m hoping to work on my ocd once I can get my anxiety down to a controllable level so really hoping the meds may help me too.
I also have awful IBS which I am obsessed about and completely controls my life (vicious cycle of anxiety causing symptoms and back and forth) my consultant hopes that even if I can’t get my IBS controlled atm, being on anti anxiety meds may help to reduce the obsession I have over my symptoms.
Urgh, It’s a nightmare!

It absolutely calmed down my anxiety and over-thinking - I noticed a difference within a couple of days and have had no side-effects. My head just got ‘quieter’, it’s bloody marvellous.

NImumconfused · 01/11/2023 17:39

DD is on 30mg for OCD primarily, no significant side effects other than it disrupted her sleep a little to begin with (she had loads of problems with sertraline, couldn't tolerate that at all).

It has helped, her OCD and anxiety have both reduced somewhat, but she's still on a waiting list for the therapy part of the equation and also autistic, which complicates matters.
