Birmingham folks - good lunch spots?

I’m coming to a concert at the Symphony Hall next week. Can anyone recommend a nice lunch place within a 20min walk of there? I am supposedly on a diet, so somewhere that might cater for that would be great, but not essential. Perhaps a nice brunchy/coffee place, or Vietnamese/Thai /Indian? Also if anyone can recommend convenient parking that would be brilliant – I don’t mind if it’s £££ as the train fare is ruinous so I’m saving a fortune by driving. Thanks!

Turtle Bay has a good brunch menu and there’s one not too far from Symphony Hall. If you’d rather have Indian, there’s also Dishoom nearby.

We normally head to Brindley Place. Las Iguanas, All bar one, Slug & Lettuce….
There’s a car park on Holliday Street we normally use which is a short walk from Broad Street/Symphony Hall.

Damascena on Temple Row for Syrian meze

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 01/11/2023 13:32

Dishoom, Turtle Bay etc we have at home, so I would prefer to try something different. Will check out the Syrian place - love a bit of Middle Eastern food.

Has a proper look at the Syrian - it seems great, thank you!

No problem! It's our favourite cafe

AlwaysFreezing · 02/11/2023 05:24

Get the independent Birmingham app. You don't need to subscribe (it's a couple of quid for a month if you do and gives various discounts).

Remember the German Market will be open, so town will be busier than usual. You could eat at the market.

Parking wise B3 is a naice car park, but it will be a bit of a walk. There is a car park at Brindley place tho. Way less of a walk.

I also came to recommend Damascena.
Great food for very reasonable prices. No alcohol though if you wanted a drink.
Close to there is Rudy’s pizza too which is also lovely.

Daisychainsandglitter · 02/11/2023 05:50

Ju Ju's is an independent cafe/bar not far from the symphony hall. The food is really lovely. It's a bit off the beaten track so you will avoid all the crowds from the German market.

peplepue · 02/11/2023 07:27

The Ivy is within just about a 20min walk

hermioneee · 02/11/2023 07:28

Ju jus is lovely

Leighdown · 02/11/2023 07:42

+1 for Rudy's Pizza at Brindleyplace

IvanTheDragon · 02/11/2023 07:45

York's, either the branch in IKON gallery or near New Street, or Medicine (in the old society of artists premises at the right end of New Street for Symphony Hall, although be prepared to dodge the markets!)

IvanTheDragon · 02/11/2023 07:45

Although you can't go wrong with Damascena!

StarkRealism · 02/11/2023 07:48

The Indian streatery is lovely.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/11/2023 08:50

Thank you all so much! I'm in Manchester, so we have Rudy's (my DC's favourite), the Ivy etc at home. I'm keener to try somewhere independent, so will definitely have a look at all the other recommendations. And thanks for the parking tips - driving round unfamiliar city centres confuses the life out of me, so it's good to have a couple of option. Hopefully if I fail to find one, the other will present itself!

Enjoy! Hope you have a fab time!

We went to Rosa's Thai in Chamberlain Square last time we were at a concert at the Symphony Hall. It was very good.

We parked in Five Ways car park, as it's really good value compared to most, I think it was £7 for 12 hours. It's a 10 minute walk along Broad Street to the Symphony Hall.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 08/11/2023 17:39

Thanks again for recommending Damascena! We went today, and were squeezed into the last table in the counter area at the front as they were full. I was a bit sad not to be in the lovely dining room proper, but forgot all about that when the food came out - everything was great. We'd never have stumbled across it without MN.

Oh, and we called into Medicine to get cakes to bring home. Not sampled them yet, but everything looks fab!

Glad you enjoyed it! I always end up ordering enough for 3 people by accident
