I’m unwell - I have 60 pounds to spend for my weekly shop. I don’t like British food (trauma from care placements) but otherwise I’m not fussy at all.

What am I putting in my shop please?

Am ill so may not be much help.
Buy some brown rice, cans of tuna, veg, fruit, passata tomato sauce (which you can add herbs, spices etc whichever you prefer, x virgin olive oil) you can use that to go with pasta or rice and veg dish that will do you 2 days.
Chicken fillets/thighs. Potatoes, roast in oven same time.
Steak Mince, make another dish that will do 2 days. Or a chili with kidney beans & rice.
eggs for omelette.
Loo roll, cleaning stuff.
Cake as everyone needs a treat.

Am sure someone will have better options.

Lots of veg to make soups, curries, lasagne etc.

To KnickerlessParson will you make me some soup am unwell. Would love a bowl of homemade soup now but too drained to make it.

KnickerlessParsons · 31/10/2023 19:28

Would love to. I am a good soup maker, though I say so myself. Are you in North Wiltshire?

When I was ill as a kid my mum used to poach a bit of cod in milk and serve it with mashed potatoes and butter and salt and now it's what I always want if I'm ill.

Very quick soup: fry onions, add chopped root veg - potatoes, swede, sweet potatoes and carrots, boil up, add lentils until they are cooked, stock cubes for flavour, garlic from a tube, peppers from a jar snd shredded greens of some kind (could be already shredded in a packet), you can get minced ginger in jars too, lots of the ginger and garlic will be really good for you. If you've got the energy chop lots of parsley and chestnut mushrooms and maybe tomatoes to add near the end but it's good enough without. Serve it with a swirl of natural yogurt and some lemon juice.
You can add any veg you like of course.

Brown rice from microwave packets is easy and a dollop of the above soup on rice is then a whole other meal.
Hope everyone is better soon. I'm just recovering from covid.

heldinadream that sounds lovely, what symptoms did you have with covid if you don't mind me asking. Hope everyone gets better soon as the illness seems to be dragging on for ages.

heldinadream aw my mum used to cook fish like this also. We always had fish on a friday also.

@BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants basically was like flu but I'm still incredibly tired even though I'm kinda technically better, and I've lost some sense of taste - not totally but it's not what it was, and I'm also very grumpy with a short fuse which is unusual for me I'm usually quite patient.
Have you got covid?

madeinmanc · 01/11/2023 07:20
  • Bananas are good fuel when you're ill and they need no prep.
  • Cheese scones go nicely with a bowl of soup and quite hearty.
  • English apples are in season, tasty and a vitamin hit.
  • Some fresh fruit juice e.g. pineapple if there are no blood sugar issues, or a big bottle of Innocent smoothie? I don't normally have these if well because of the sugars but I think they can give a boost if you're ill. I think I had the red "energise" one when I had covid.
  • Fresh ginger and lemons to make a ginger and lemon drink.

£60 for how many people for how long?

Are you up to cooking or do you need it to be easy food?

Have you got anything in that needs using up?

Do you need anything non food?
