How much notice do you get for parents evening?

Just that really. Does your school send out the dates in the beginning of the year? Maybe a couple of weeks in advance with a letter closer to the date? Or do you find out days beforehand and are expected to drop everything and attend? Not to mention magically find the time in the middle of the day to book a time slot. (Not angry at all, nope).

Dates are usually in school calendar a couple of months before then appointments are released around 2-3 weeks before.

@popandchoc sounds great. Makes complete sense!

Email about a fortnight before with link to book.

@DappledThings Do you have any idea of the date beforehand? Is this primary or secondary?

Can't remember for primary, but for secondary a calendar of important dates through the school year were shared at the beginning of each school year. We would get an email a couple of days before slots were opened to book.

No other reminders, but I think that is plenty.

Both my DDs went/go to different schools but the school always published their calendar for the year with dates such as Inset, House events, sports day and yes parents evening. So depending on what year your child was you had anywhere from 3 months to 9 months notice.

MonkeyPuddle · 31/10/2023 12:30

The two dates are on the school calendar which is on the website and is there a year in advance.
We then get 2 weeks notice of the times of the sessions (different days have different sessions) and then a week before we can book a slot.

MonkeyPuddle · 31/10/2023 12:30

To be fair our school is excellent at communication

Monkeybutt1 · 31/10/2023 12:33

For DS primary they are always in October and April, then a few weeks before we get the dates then booking opens a couple of weeks before those dates. They are always from 3.30 into the evening though with 2 days to book from.

Foxesandsquirrels · 31/10/2023 12:33

I would be more than happy with a set up where the dates are published on the school calendar at the beginning of the year and than something else closer to the date. Sounds very reasonable.

Beginning of the school year with dates for the full year.

UpInYourHead · 31/10/2023 12:36

Its on the school calendar from the start of the year About a month before, they email to tell us when online booking opens, which is usually about a week after the email. This is secondary school.

At primary, we only used to get a couple of weeks notice, which was a pain for some parents.

Since the subtext here is clear, I am just wondering if you have taken this up with the school rather than MN?

carddino · 31/10/2023 12:41

Newsletter September with wrong dates
Newsletter October with correct dates
System open yesterday to book, email sent Friday to advise.
System not working
Dates are two weeks away.

A couple of weeks before and then you have to log on at it exactly the right time to get appointments which is usually 9am and even then you're got to get lucky to get the appointments you want. Not helped by the fact that I have twins and they have mostly different teachers and DH teaches at the school so he is doing parents evening so we can't divide and conquer.

I've never really got much out parents evening tbh, not much you can get out of five minutes.
