Why might someone have raised cholesterol in these circumstances?

My husband had a blood test and it showed raised cholesterol. Not high, just raised

The thing is, he's never been overweight. He's been 10 stone 9 since he was 20 and he's 51 now! Never fluctuated a pound.

He's fit - gym 4 times a week all his life, a semi professional golfer for 25 years

He eats well. Doesn't eat processed foods very often

Never smoked and is tee-total.

Can it just be 'one of those things?'

Not a medic but my very basic understanding is that as one of the functions of cholesterol is to protect the walls of blood vessels then maybe his blood pressure is slightly raised?

You don't have to be overweight or unfit to have raised cholesterol

Mine is due to hypothyroidism.

May be hereditary (one of those things). Cholesterol is not a result of being overweight necessarily or solely. Try benecol or supplements from H&B - brought mine down the .2 to bring it under the radar with just one little yoghurty drink per day or so (I sometimes forget) but mine is consistently at the level it is so GP has said no action nec (despite t2 and BP medicated for both and in control).

It is very often genetic. I have high cholesterol, am slim and active, eat super healthy, at my most healthy and whaddya know, my bad cholesterol is now high!! Make it make sense. I've cut out butter now so we'll see at next check.

Sometimes there is no real reason -try and avoid statins if it's not that high- and try some plant sterols. Statins gave me very weak legs and aching muscles and it seems I'm not the only one. I've gone onto plant sterols and keep carbs low, upped the oats and avacado!
