So many options! What choices of shelves/rails etc have worked well for you? I can't decide!

Do you prefer seeing things open or hidden away?

Open works better for me so I tend to go for mesh or glass fronted doors rather than solid.

What are you storing in there? Do you need full or half length hanging spaces?

I tend to favour bulkier items like jumpers and trousers on shelves. Most tops/ activewear/ underwear in drawers. Some small pull out shelves for accessories. There's also a pull out rail that's good for things like dressing gowns. Shoe rack under the full length hanging.

What do you need to put in it? How much space have you got? We've got a shallow depth one, but actually went for two carcasses rather than one wide one so we can have each half of the inside separate rather than having the same 'thing' full width, IYSWIM.

I like a top rail for clothes that I've worn once and can be worn again and a bottom rail for clean clothes (or vv).
A 3/4 for long cardies with a shelf below for whatever so you've an extra 1/4, a full length one for long dresses

We just got them - DH has a double with top half hanging and bottom half drawers. i've got a double with one half long hanging, and one half top half hanging/drawers. There's a great company called Vestium who will design for you, and then they come and install them, i.e., turn them into proper built in wardrobes - but fraction of the price of Sharps!

I'd recommend going into ikea and asking for help with planning it. We went at a quiet time expecting to just have a look at the door styles etc and ended up with a super helpful ikea staff member doing a plan for us which was loads better than we would have done ourselves. It's all saved online so you can tweak it and then order it easily.

I have 1 double width one which has 2 rails so tops on the top rail and skirts and trousers on a trouser hanger on the bottom rail. It also has a shelf at the top
I then have a single width one which has a shelf at the top, then a rail for dresses and long skirts and then 2 pull out wire basket drawers at the bottom. I then have another single width one that has lots of shelves on the top half for tops and jumpers and then drawers on the second half for underwear etc.

DH has the same but instead of the single one with a rail for dresses he has lots of shelves.

We have a long thin bedroom so our wardrobes at one end and make an enclosed 'walk-in' wardrobe area so we dont have any doors on them. I wallpapered the back of the wardrobes that face into the bedroom.

Thank you for all the tips and for sharing your design ideas! I made the trip into IKEA today and had a good look at all the wardrobes, colour options, door options, interior options etc, then sat down at their design computers and tried it all out - sorted!
