What do I do while taking DD trick or treating?

Sorry, bit of a dull question!

Planning on taking my little DD (4) trick or treating round our estate tomorrow early evening, about 5pm. Then coming home to give her dinner and put her to bed, but planning on opening door to any trick or treaters who come round before about 7. We have a pumpkin outside which I was planning on lighting when we get in.

My question is, should I take the pumpkin in while I'm out with her? Or put a note on the door saying I'll be back later? Or will the fact that the pumpkin isn't lit be enough?

I always leave a note to say that we've gone trick or treating and leaving a bowl of sweets and to help yourselves.

We usually leave one out on the gatepost with a bowl of sweets when/if we’re out.

Just take it in.

Putting a note on the door saying you're out, may well get you burgled.

I used yi not light the pumpkin while I was out trick or treating with my DD 5-6.30pm then light when I got back but then I found it was all teens & was at the door every 30 seconds so couldn’t make her tea!

So now, I light the pumpkin, leave the tub of sweets outside the front door & leave a note saying take 1 only🤣

I thought of leaving sweets out, but then thought that DD will be disappointed not to see any trick or treaters (who will be the kids from our estate anyway, we don't get lots of randoms) if they all just help themselves to sweets while we're out! Leaning towards leaving a note to say come back later tbh

Does the burglar enjoy them too 😆 sorry I couldn't resist!

At that age I just turned lights off and took mine to 5 or 6 neighbours we know well so we were only out for half an hour and back by about 6.15
Then we'd put the pumpkin out and be open for business for about an hour and they enjoyed seeing everyone coming to the door.
I always take pumpkin in and put lights out about 7.30 as the little kids have all been by then.

It seems a bit mean to leave a note saying come back later just so your child can see the trick or treaters - people usually go round each street once so unlikely that people would go away and come back. Surely she will have seen other kids while you are out and about anyway. The norm is if you are not there to leave your pumpkins lit and put out a bowl of sweets. If you don’t then I hope you won’t let your daughter take sweets from other houses that have left out sweets if other kids can’t do the same at your house!

Pumpkin inside and lights off while you are out.
