Is your house like a show house all the time?

So I'm sitting here in my living room, I'm not long in from work and the place is so untidy. I'm fed up of being the only one that does anything so I'm just sitting down and having a cup of tea. There's just bits of shit every where. I mean it's not completely horrific but it's just not how I want it to be and I'd die if I had unexpected visitors.

Is this how it generally is in most homes when people are chilling or are people tidier than my family?

It's never a show house.

Screamingabdabz · 29/10/2023 20:52

Nobody with a real life does. Only boring control freaks.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 29/10/2023 20:53

Hollow laughter. (House looking like it's been burgled.)

Hermittrismegistus · 29/10/2023 20:53

Nope. I don't allow unexpected visitors in though so it's not an issue.

shardash · 29/10/2023 20:53

lol - no.

RedRiverShore4 · 29/10/2023 20:53

Mines never a show house.

amialazycow · 29/10/2023 20:54

I'm so glad to hear that! I feel so much pressure to have an amazing home. Growing up my home was alway immaculate but my mother didn't work and my dad definitely had ocd and was a tidy freak. I just feel like I'm
Letting my house become a mess but I'm working 2 jobs/55 hours a week - I have no time

If only… I spend my life picking up toys and tidying just to turn round and find multiple new messes. It drives me mad.

fedupwithbeinghot · 29/10/2023 20:55

90% of the time but I live alone and I rarely cook. If there was any mess, I'd be the only one to blame

SundayAnon · 29/10/2023 20:55

Ours is fairly tidy most of the time. But about 1 hour from being guest-ready (unless we are actually ready for guests).

WandaWonder · 29/10/2023 20:55

No because I don't have bodies hidden in the attic

BeyondMyWits · 29/10/2023 20:56

God no.... untidy, or ermmm "lived in" here.

Anyone who cares doesn't get invited back.

KermitTheSecond · 29/10/2023 20:56

Yeah, if the show is How Clean Is Your House...

NowNumber5 · 29/10/2023 20:56

<Casts a critical eye around> It looks like a family home 🤷🏼‍♀️

Superfrog3 · 29/10/2023 20:57

Nope I wish because I'm so sick of tidying. If I have unannounced visitors I tell them to either find the hoover or shut up.

Hedonism · 29/10/2023 20:57

Mine looks like a show home at all times.

Hahaha, only joking. There is a family of people living here, it looks like a family home not a show home.

LeonBlack · 29/10/2023 20:57

Downstairs rooms that visitors see are always pretty smart. Other ground floor rooms where guests don’t go like the study, utility and pretty much all of upstairs are usually a complete mess.

If we have overnight guests, we tidy upstairs although the guest bedroom and bathroom are always presentable.

Libertass · 29/10/2023 20:57

Show house? You must be joking! 🤣

The only ‘show’ my house would be in is ‘Britain’s biggest shit-tip’.

amialazycow · 29/10/2023 20:58

I'm currently looking at 3 empty ribeana bottles, some miniature hero wrappers, handful of daughters colouring pencils scattered all over living room. About 15 pages of 'art' from said daughter, an empty yoghurt pot, disheveled cushions (some on the floor) a random football among other stuff. Plus the room needs badly hoovered lol

I'm now opening wine 🍷 😂

Definitely lived in. Very lived in.

OriginalFloorboards · 29/10/2023 21:00

Nope. Horses at home. Either the house is tidy or outside is a mess or vice versa. Never them both together or that means something is wrong with the horses and we can’t ride.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/10/2023 21:00

Nah, we deliberately invite people round a couple of times a year so we clean it

The rest of the time we just don't care 🤷‍♀️

TimeForACider · 29/10/2023 21:01

My sister’s is…on Instagram 🙄 Yet, you go over there and it’s like a tornado has hit it! All she’s done is sweep the crap into one corner to take her bragging pictures. I think it’s the same for a lot of people online.

PickAChew · 29/10/2023 21:01

Yours doesn't sound that bad, you just need to encourage people to dispose of their rubbish.

Sakura7 · 29/10/2023 21:02

Oh this thread makes me feel better, thanks OP!

I grew up with very messy parents so I'm always worried I have blind spots when it comes to cleaning. I get anxious about people coming over unexpectedly, but definitely not enough to keep it in (or anywhere near) showhouse condition.
